Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Susan Williamson scores team-high 15 points in Broncos' loss to Sharks

The Broncos' women's basketball team dropped a home game on Tuesday evening, falling to the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College by a score of 60-19. With the defeat the Broncos fell to 0-5, while the Sharks picked up their first victory of the 2023-2024 campaign, improving to 1-2.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Susan Williamson netted a team-high 15 points, while also snatching seven rebounds. Katherine Reyes added a team-high 10 rebounds, and a game-best six steals, as well as four points. Finally, it was Alaysha Dowe finalizing her evening with nine rebounds.

In the victory for Suffolk, Alyssa Dixon put forth a phenomenal effort, dominating with a game-high 29 points. She also collected seven boards while tallying a team-high three steals. Sanderlee Thervil contributed seven points while snatching 13 rebounds, and Jasmine Beverly and Elizabeth Shelton finished with 13 and 12 rebounds, respectively.

Suffolk used the opening 4:40 of play to race out to an 8-0 advantage, courtesy of six points from Dixon, and a converted layup by Aaliyah Shorter. The Sharks would only allow one field goal in the quarter (a made layup by Reyes), and held a 12-4 edge after 10 minutes of action.

In the second quarter, Dixon's drained triple put the visitors up by 18, 22-4 with 6:01 remaining in the first half. A 6-0 Bronx run, thanks to three converted jumpers by Williamson, brought the Broncos to within 12, 22-10. The Sharks would close the quarter strong after that, outscoring the hosts 6-2 to snatch a 28-12 as the curtain dropped on the half.

The Sharks dominated the second half, outscoring the Broncos 19-5 in the third, and 13-2 in the fourth, to account for the 41-point victory. Bronx was only able to muster three field goals over the final 20 minutes of play, shooting three for 27 during that span.

Bronx will now break for the Thanksgiving holiday, and will return to action on Tuesday evening, as the team travels to Poughkeepsie, NY to battle Dutchess Community College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 6:00pm.
