Broncos upended by Bulldogs, 57-40; Susan Williamson scores 20, Katherine Reyes 18 despite defeat

The Broncos' women's basketball team suffered a loss to Bergen Community College last night, falling to the Bulldogs by a score of 57-40. The game took place in Paramus, NJ. With the defeat, Bronx slipped to 0-6 on the 2023-2024 campaign, while the Bulldogs improved to a mark of 2-5.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Susan Williamson led the way for the Broncos, tying for the game-high of 20 points and registering a team-high nine rebounds. She also added a pair of assists. Katherine Reyes finished with 18 points and eight boards, as well.

Pacing Bergen was Nya Duran, as she tied for the game-high of 20 points whiel snatching five rebounds and dishing four assists. Josselyn Nantipia posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Melody Peralta finalized her evening with 10 points and five rebounds. Charmaigne Alcober contributed nine points and four dimes, and Anissa Fraser pulled down 11 boards.

The Bulldogs held a 14-4 advantage inside the final minute of the opening quarter before Williamson drained a triple with time winding down to pull Bronx to within seven, 14-7, as time expired on the opening quarter. Bergen dominated the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 15-5 and allowing just two Broncos field goals. At the half, the Bulldogs held a commanding 29-12 lead.

Bergen scored the opening four points of the third quarter to take a 33-12 lead, and while the Broncos were able to pull to within 16 (38-22) with 3:45 remaining in the third, the Bulldogs recorded the final five points of the quarter to take a 43-22 edge after 30 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 26 points in the fourth (50-24), and eventually won the game by 17.

Both squads struggled shooting the basketball, with Bergen converting on 31.5 percent of its shots from the floor (23-73), and the Broncos hitting on 29.4 percent (15-51). The Bulldogs dominated the glass, snatching 53 rebounds compared to 34 for the visitors, and Bergen also registered 14 assists to Bronx's two. The Bulldogs narrowly won the turnover battle as well, committing 16 miscues, while the Broncos had 18.

Bronx returns to action on Tuesday evening, as the Broncos will host CUNYAC foe Borough of Manhattan Community College. Start-time at the Alumni Gymnasium is scheduled for 6:00pm.
