Women's basketball opens 2023-2024 campaign with loss to Westchester Vikings

The Broncos' women's basketball team dropped its season-opener this past Thursday evening, falling to the Vikings of Westchester Community College by a score of 92-11. The game took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. While the game served as first for the Broncos this year, Westchester improved to a mark of 2-1 on the 2023-2024 campaign.

Newcomers Katherine Reyes and Susan Williamson accounted for the scoring for the hosts, with Reyes netting a team-high six, and Williamson contributing five. Reyes also added five rebounds, while Williamson snatched four. Freshman Rachel McGuire contributed four rebounds, and a team-high three steals.

In the victory for the Vikings, Baronique Russell knocked down 14 of her 21 attempts from the floor, finishing with a game-high 28 points to go along with 11 rebounds and six steals. Natasha White also posted a double-double, as she netted 16 points while snatching 13 boards, dishing a game-high five assists, and tallying three steals. Milagros Alston and Jaida Tejada also finished with 14 points apiece, and Chynna Mincey finalized her evening with 10 boards.

Bronx will look to bounce back on Tuesday evening, as the Broncos take on the Lions of Nassau Community College at the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
