Broncos undone by BMCC's offensive fireworks in CUNYAC clash

The Broncos men's soccer team dropped a CUNYAC match on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Panthers of the Borough of Manhattan Community College by a score of 7-1. The match took place at Pier 40 in New York, NY. With the defeat, Bronx slipped to 1-6-1 on the 2023 campaign (0-2 CUNYAC). BMCC improved to 5-4 on the year, with a 2-1 mark in conference play.

The Panthers struck first in this one at exactly 15 minutes into the match, as As Mouhamadou Ndiaye sliced home Mamadou Diallo pass to make it 1-0 visitors. 2:57 later, BMCC added to its lead, as Diallo registered a goal of his own, capitalizing on a beautiful lead pass from Ademola Opesanwo before depositing the ball into the net. That made it 2-0 in favor of the Panthers. BMCC would add two more goals in the opening session, both by standout Niklas Filippi. The first came at 22:09 (from Adrian Herold and Opesanwo), and the other at 30:07 (from Amir Howard). At the half, the Panthers led 4-0.

92 seconds into the second half, Filippi struck again, this time taking advantage of some smooth passes from Carlos Auquilla and Ayman Djelil before slashing the ball in. Later, at 58:10, the Broncos would break through for a goal. Ashraf Abubakar was fouled hard in the box, resulting in a penalty kick opportunity. Abubakar capitalized on the chance, drilling the ball in to make it 5-1.

BMCC, still leading by four goals, continued to push offensively, and it would pay off, as the Panthers scored two more goals – another from Filippi (at 70:22, from Opesanwo), and a tally by Diallo (83:39, from Howard and Herold). BMCC would advance for the six-goal victory.

Panthers netminder Abdul Mumin Seidu picked up the win in net for the visitors, as he logged 80:28 of action, making three saves and not allowing a goal. Backup Yahir Ramirez played 9:32, allowing a goal and making a pair of saves.

BMCC held a 34-17 edge in shots, while also earning seven corner kick opportunities compared to two for Bronx.

Bronx will return to action on Saturday morning, as the Broncos travel to Bayside, NY to battle the Tigers of Queensborough Community College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 11:00am.
