Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer splits pair of matches against Queensborough and Nassau; Sophomore Asaa Adiki gets honored

The Broncos' men's soccer team split a pair of matches in recent days, defeating CUNYAC foe Queensborough in Bayside this past Monday 3-2, before falling to Nassau 10-2 at Ohio Field yesterday. With that output, Bronx is now 2-7-1 on the 2023 campaign, including a mark of 1-2 in conference action. The Tigers are now 3-7-1 (2-2 CUNYAC), and the Lions stayed unbeaten, improving to 12-0-2.

In Monday's thrilling victory over the Tigers, the Broncos received goals from Abdul Mohammed, Pape Sarr, and Ashraf Abubakar. Queensborough used a pair of second half tallies, one from Malduin Aldaz (assisted by Jefferson Cubias), and another from Cubias (assisted by Adan Montiel) to pull to within one at 3-2. A late surge of shots on net were stopped by Broncos netminder Edwin Martinez, and Bronx held on for a one goal win.

The Broncos held a 17-16 edge in the shots category.

A day later, the Broncos played their final home match of the 2023 campaign. Prior to the match, the Bronx Community College Department of Athletics and the men's soccer program presented sophomore Asaa Adiki with a commemorative action shot picture frame as a show of appreciation for his dedication to the program.

When the match started, the Lions proved why they have remained unbeaten this season. Nassau scored seven first half goals, including two by Lorenzo Cali, and one apiece by Marc Augustin, Matteo Kanakaris, Silas Stewart-Caws, Marco Russo, and Nicolai Peralta. Bronx was able to notch a goal with 3:02 remaining in the opening session when standout Ashraf Abubakar slashed a ball home for the hosts. At the half, the Lions held a commanding 7-1 edge.

In the early stages of the second half, Abubakar struck again, receiving a pass from Abdul Mohammed before depositing the ball into the net to make it 7-2. The Lions responded with three goals to close out the scoring for the match, courtesy of Caiden Marshall, Gender Urbina Lendos, and Alan Funoz.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday afternoon, as the Broncos travel to Middletown, NY to take on SUNY Orange. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 4:00pm.
