Bronx defeated by Colts in Middletown, NY; Herbert Gary scores team-high 17 points in defeat

The Broncos' men's basketball team dropped a road contest on Thursday evening, falling to the Colts of SUNY Orange by a score of 121-54. The contest took place in Middletown, NY. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to 1-16 on the 2022-2023 campaign, while the Colts stayed unblemished at 14-0.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Herbert Gary led the way for the visitors, scoring a team-high 17 points (7-9 FT) while snatching a game-high 15 rebounds. He also contributed two dimes, along with a pair of steals. Newcomer Matthew Candelaria knocked down four trifectas, finishing with 16 points, and Taijay Good, fresh off his dazzling effort against LaGuardia, netted 11 points and snatched two boards.

For SUNY Orange, three Colts scored 18 points or more, as Keon Gill and Romeo Aquino tied for the game-high of 21 points. Gill connected on nine of his 14 attempts from the floor, including three buckets from long range, while also tying for the game-high of four steals, grabbing two rebounds, and adding two assists. Aquino hit on eight of his 11 attempts from the hardwood, and three of his four shots from the free throw line, while also collecting 11 boards, tying for the game-high of four steals, and registering two assists. Darius Boben (8-10 FG) scored 18 points, snatched five rebounds, tallied three assists, and swiped two steals. George Patsalos posted a double-double with 12 points, a team-high 13 rebounds, and a game-high six assists, and Tyreke Harewood and Jeremiah Arne netted 12 and 10 points, respectively.

SUNY Orange shot 57.1 percent from the floor (52-91), while Bronx hit on just 30.3 percent of its attempts from the hardwood (20-66).  absolutely dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Broncos 64-36. The Colts also had four times as many assists (28 to Bronx's seven), while also winning the turnover battle, committing just 11 miscues compared to 20 for the Broncos.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Broncos will travel to Brooklyn, NY to take on Kingsborough in a CUNYAC game. Start-time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
