Monroe-Bronx's second half scoring surge too much for Broncos

The Broncos men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2022 campaign on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Express of Monroe College-Bronx by a score of 8-0. The match took place at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, NY. With the defeat, the Broncos slipped to 2-1 on the year, while the Express improved to 3-2-1.

After 29 scoreless minutes of action, the Express broke through for the first goal of the match when Federico Sandoval buried a ball past Broncos goalkeeper Ricardo Perez with a header off an Asier Garcia corner kick. Monroe-Bronx notched its second goal of the afternoon with 90 seconds remaining in the opening session, as Josh Kenig slashed home a goal off a pass from Alejandro Preud'homme-Cerda. The Express led 2-0 as time expired on the first half.

Monroe-Bronx poured it on in the second half, notching six goals to run away with the match. Zion Julien scored at the 52:40 mark. Shortly after, at 58:17, Sandoval registered his second goal of the afternoon, pushing the Express' advantage to four goals. Julien would score two more goals at 68:57 and 89:50, and those were sandwiched around a goal apiece by Marc Peris (74:30) and Ignacio Errejon (88:32).

The Broncos will return to action this Thursday afternoon, as they'll play their home opener against Orange County Community College at Ohio Field. Start-time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
