The Broncos women's basketball team dropped three games this week to open its 2022-2023 campaign, falling to Hostos Community College at the Alumni Gym this past Thursday evening by a score of 64-47, before dropping consecutive games in the Jefferson C.C. Cannoneer Classic to Jamestown Community College (61-43) and University of Connecticut at Avery Point (73-62). Bronx is currently 0-3 on the season, including a mark of 0-1 in CUNYAC competition.

This past Thursday, a capacity crowd packed the Alumni Gym to see Bronx battle borough rival Hostos. Despite the loss, the Broncos were led by freshman Brianna Randolph, as she connected on five of her eight attempts from the floor to finish with a team-high 16 points. She also snatched five rebounds while adding a pair of assists and swiping two steals. Sophomore standout Shawnasia Ofaire posted a double-double, scoring 10 points, and posting team-bests of 11 rebounds and five steals. Tatyana Graham also chipped in with nine points (4-7 FG) and a team-high four assists.

Pacing the Caimans was Aiyana Hicks, and she connected on four shots from downtown, and seven of her 13 attempts overall to finish with a game-high 21 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds, collected a team-high five assists, and added three steals. Savannah Williams netted 13 points (6-9 FG) while leading all players with 13 rebounds and six steals, and it was Lanasia Drain finishing with 12 points and six rebounds.

Bronx out-rebonded Hostos 42-32 in the game, but the Caimans connected on 26 attempts from the floor, compared to just 15 for the Broncos. Hostos also won the turnover battle by a wide margin, committing just 15 miscues on the evening while forcing 34.

Following the emotional season opener against the Caimans, the Broncos headed to the McVean Center Gymnasium in Watertown, NY to play in the Jefferson Community College Cannoneer Classic. On Saturday evening, Bronx fell to Jamestown Community College 61-43. Despite the defeat, Ofaire netted 18 points while grabbing 10 boards and blocking a pair of shots, while Randolph also posted a double-double with 17 points to go along with team-highs of 11 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

For the Hawks, Zalika Stevens led all players on the court with 20 points. She also contributed six rebounds and a pair of steals. Hannah Hicks put forth a tremendous effort, dropping-in 13 points (5-11 FG) while snatching a game-high 26 rebounds. Her four blocks also led all players. D'Auzhanay Harden finished with 12 points and a game-high seven assists, and it was Grace Lundmark finishing with eight points and 11 rebounds.

Both teams kept the turnovers at a minimum, each committing 19 for the game. Adelaide Hauptmann contributed nine points and a game-high 19 rebounds, and Francesca Foster's seven assists led all players.

The Pointers misfired on just eight free throws (17-25, 68 percent), while the Broncos missed 13 (7-20, 35 percent). The Pointers dominated on the glass, snatching 68 boards while holding Bronx to 44, but the Broncos committed just 12 turnovers while forcing 24 opposition miscues.
