Broncos force 50 Mustang turnovers, dominate Monroe College-JV 74-30 at Alumni Gym

The Broncos women's basketball team picked up a victory on Tuesday evening, defeating Monroe College's JV squad by a score of 74-30. The game took place at the Alumni Gym on the campus of Bronx Community College. With the victory, the Broncos improved to a mark of 2-6 on the 2022-2023 campaign, while the Mustangs stayed winless at 0-3.

Standout Shawnasia Ofaire led the way for Bronx this evening, as she drained nine of her 17 attempts from the floor, finishing with a game-high 23 points. She also swiped six steals, snatched five boards, and added three dimes. Nyla Harris contributed 13 points, six caroms, and five steals, and Tatyana Graham netted nine points, collected four boards, piled four assists, and added three steals. Two-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Brianna Randolph putting forth a versatile effort, scoring eight points, grabbing seven rebounds, and registering game-highs of seven assists and seven steals. Finally, it was Treazure Diggins scoring seven points, swiping six steals, grabbing five rebounds, and tallying three assists. 

Despite the loss for Monroe College-JV, the Mustangs were paced by Teah Mckoy, as she posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Additionally, Jalissa Fatorma finished with 10 points and three boards, and Jenny Washington contributed six steals.

Bronx raced out to a 10-2 advantage just 4:25 into the contest, and held a healthy 18-6 advantage after one quarter. In the second period, the Broncos not only outscored Monroe College-JV 19-5, but Bronx also allowed just one field goal for the period, taking a commanding 37-11 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Broncos held a 30 point edge, 41-11, in the opening moments of the third quarter, but an 8-0 Mustangs run closed the Bronx gap to 22 points, 41-19, with 5:26 remaining in the period. Bronx would close the third on a 14-5 spurt, going up 55-24 as the quarter came to a close. In the fourth, Bronx gradually built its lead, and its 44-point margin of victory turned out to be its largest lead of the contest.

For the game, the Broncos connected on 38.2 percent of their attempts from the floor (29-76), while holding the Mustangs to a 26.5 percent conversion rate (13-49). Bronx held a solid 55-42 edge in the rebounding department, while also collecting  a whopping 35 steals compared to 11 for the visitors. The Broncos also won the turnover battle convincingly, committing 25 miscues while forcing 50 mistakes for the Mustangs. 

Bronx will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Broncos will look to win for the third time in four tries, taking to the road to battle Passaic County Community College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 5:00pm.
