Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Broncos stymied by Falcons, 77-51 at Alumni Gym; Taijay Good scores 18 despite the loss

The Broncos men's basketball team lost a home game Tuesday evening, falling to the Falcons of Dutchess Community College by a score of 77-51. The game took place at the Alumni Gym in the Bronx. With the defeat, the Broncos dipped to 0-8 on the 2022-2023 campaign, while Dutchess improved to 6-5 with the victory.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Taijay Good scored 14 of his team-leading 18 points in the second half. He also grabbed four rebounds and tied for the game-high of three steals. Additionally, Herbert Gary contributed seven points while tying for the game-high of eight rebounds, and Dominique Norman connected on three of his five attempts from the floor, finishing with seven points and five boards.

Jeremiah Williams led the way for the Falcons, draining seven of his 13 attempts from the floor, and seven of nine shots from the charity stripe to finish with a game-high 21 points. He also added five rebounds and three assists, as well. Nashaun Johnson scored 11 points, and Victor Potter Jr. finished with eight points and eight boards.

Dutchess raced out to a 14-3 lead just 4:01 into the contest, but the Broncos responded with a 6-0 run over a span of 3:34 to slice their deficit to five points at 14-9. The Falcons answered that with 10 consecutive points to catapult ahead 24-9, before taking a 36-16 edge into the locker room at halftime.

The Broncos would never trail by any less than 19 points for the entirety of the second half, as Dutchess went up by as many as 37 (67-30) before eventually winning the game by 26.

The Falcons were far more efficient shooting the basketball, as Dutchess connected on 43.9 percent of its attempts from the floor (29-66), while the Broncos converted on just 30.3 percent of their attempts (20-66). Neither team shot particularly well at the line, with the Falcons misfiring on 10 freebees (17-27, 63 percent), and Bronx missing 14 (8-22, 36.4 percent). Dutchess held a slim 49-44 edge on the glass, while also tallying 15 assists to the Broncos' eight. Finally, it was the Falcons winning the turnover battle, committing 20 miscues while forcing 26 Bronx mistakes.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Broncos take to the road to battle Passaic County Community College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 7:00pm.
