Broncos men's basketball team overmatched by Westchester in 88-54 defeat

The Broncos men's basketball team dropped its third consecutive game to start the 2022-2023 campaign, falling to Westchester Community College by a score of 88-54 in a contest played at the Viking Gymnasium in Valhalla, NY. With the victory, Westchester improved to 2-2.

Bronx was paced by Tajay Good in defeat, as the youngster registered a team-high 14 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals. Herbert Gary contributed 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals, and Michael Melhado added eight points, three board, and three steals.

Five players scored in double figures for the Vikings. Dwayne Pennicooke led all players with 17 points. Her five steals were also a game-high, and she snatched three rebounds as well. Yenfry Paulino added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Jaiden Brown and Yave Cruz registered 11 points apiece. Finally, it was Omar Nkonde falling just short of a double-double, as he scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Westchester scored the first 13 points of the game and would never look back. The Vikings' lead never dipped below double difgits, and Westchester took a 32-20 edge into the locker room at halftime. Westchester started the second session with a 20-3 run to catapult ahead by a score of 52-23. The Vikings led by as many as 44, before eventually advancing for a 34 points triumph.

The Vikings dominated on the glass, grabing 54 rebounds to 32 for the Broncos, and Westchester also shot 44.8 percent from the field (30-67), while the Bronx's conversion rate was just 30 percent (18-60). The Vikings narrowly won the turnover battle, committing 29 miscues compared to 31 for the opposition, and Westchester piled 17 assists, while Bronx had four.

The Broncos will return to the court on Saturday afternoon, as Bronx will travel to Suffern, NY to take on Rockland Community College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 1:00pm.
