Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Broncos split pair of matches with Falcons, Colts; Team now awaits NJCAA Region XV Tournament fate

The Broncos men's soccer team closed out its regular season by splitting a pair of home contests over the past three days, dropping a 5-4 match to Dutchess this past Thursday afternoon, before defeating SUNY Orange by a score of 2-1 earlier today. With those results, Bronx is now 3-7 on the 2022 campaign.

In Bronx's defeat to the Falcons on Thursday, the Broncos were paced by Luis Arevalo who put forth an incredible effort offensively, as the youngster accounted for all four of his team's goals. After notching the first goal of the contest 10 minutes in, the Pan American International High School product struck again in the latter stages of the opening session. With Dutchess leading 2-1, Luis Arevalo scored in the 39th minute as well as the 44th to push the Broncos ahead by a score of 3-2 as the first half came to a close.

The Falcons tied the game in the 57th minute, thanks to a goal off the foot of Akeem Alexander. Bronx retook the lead four minutes later when Arevalo registered his fourth goal of the afternoon to give the Broncos a 4-3 edge. Dutchess' Javon Turner scored in the 67th minute to tie the match, and later, Aidan Yereance scored with three minutes remaining, a goal that turned out to be the game-winner.

In the Broncos' solid victory over the Colts of SUNY Orange, Arevalo continued his stellar offensive week by scoring the opening goal, taking advantage of a nifty slice pass from Ricardo Perez before burying the ball into the left corner of the goal to make it 1-0 Bronx. The Broncos increased their lead to 2-0 when Mohamed Quedraogo notched an unassisted tally. SUNY Orange got a goal back with 19 seconds remaining in the opening session, as Alexander Blanco was able to tap a ball home during a scrum in front of the net. At the half, Bronx led 2-1.

SUNY Orange had plenty of opportunities to tie the game in the second half, out-shooting the Broncos by a count of 12-4 in the final 45 minutes, but the Colts were unable to net the equalizer. Orange pepped six shots on net in the stanza, but Broncos netminder Luis Chavez stopped all of them.

The Broncos will now await word on a likely appearance in the NJCAA Region XV Men's Soccer Tournament. Bronx should learn its fate fairly soon when the seeds and matchups are announced.
