Broncos Drop CUNYAC opener to Hostos, 105-85

BRONX, NY - The Bronx Broncos dropped their first conference game of the season Tuesday at Hostos, 105-85. The loss came at the hands of a nationally ranked Caimans squad that was picked to win the CUNYAC in the 2021-2022 CC Men's Basketball Pre-season poll. 

This matchup of the pre-season ranked top teams of the conference was set up to be a high-scoring affair and this game lived up to the hype. Hostos dropped 105 points on the Broncos which is the most the points the visitors have allowed all season to date.

Freshman guard Michael Morgan lead the way for the Broncos by dropping 30 points on 8-16 shooting from the field, including 13 made free throws. Morgan added four assists and four steals to his stat line, maintaining his stellar two-way game throughout the season. Emmanuel Garcia had a solid overall game as well, scoring 13 points on 5-11 shooting, grabbing five rebounds, and two steals. Freshman guard Blaise Atanga provided a nice spark off the bench playing 25 minutes, tallying 12 points on 4-7 shooting from the field, five rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. 

The Broncos will have a chance at redemption at the end of the season when they host the Caimans on February 3rd at home, which is expected to be a meaningful game in the CUNYAC standings. With the loss, Bronx drops to 1-1(0-1) while Hostos improves to 3-0(1-0) on the early season. 

Bronx will have the ability to bounce back and get over .500 again at home on Thursday when they host Westchester CC at 7:00pm.
