BRONX, NY - The nationally ranked #5 Nassau CC Lions came to the Bronx Saturday, and handed the Broncos a loss in their final regular season game of the year. Coach
Dan Cinelli knew it was going to be a tough task to slow down the best team in the region.
The Broncos had their hands tied slightly due to scheduling with the CUNY Championship looming only two days after this matchup, so the Broncos rotated many of their players to keep them fresh for both matches. The game started out tight with chances for both sides but the ice breaking goal by Nassau midfielder, Jack Fridman, was forced off a Bronx turnover deep in their own end to make it 1-0 in the seventh minute. Unfortunately for the Broncos, this was the theme of the day as the majority of the Lions goals were scored off turnovers in their opponents end of the field. The Lions lead 3-0 at the break and then matched that scoreline in the 2nd half with another three goals to finish it 6-0.
The Broncos were out shot by the Lions 26-5 throughout the game. Six different Lions players scored on the 26 shots. Sophomore midfielder
Baba Anne lead the Broncos in shots with three.Â
The Bronx CC Broncos will move their focus to Monday evening when they face Queensborough CC in the CUNY Athletic Conference Championship. The Broncos have a chance to stamp their ticket to the NJCAA Region 15 tournament with a statement win on Monday.Â
