Broncos four-game winning streak halted by efficient Sharks as Suffolk downs Bronx, 96-72 at Alumni Gym

The Broncos four-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday evening, as Bronx fell to the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College by a score of 96-72. The game took place at the Alumni Gym in the Bronx. With the loss, the Broncos slipped to a mark of 7-9 on the season, while the Sharks continued to play well, improving to 8-3.

Despite the loss for Bronx, sophomore Tilquan Rucker led the way despite not having his quintessential explosive night. The standout connected on seven of his 18 attempts from the floor, finishing with a team-high 18 points, and a game-high seven steals. He also grabbed five rebounds, as well. Veteran Malik Hamilton finished with 17 points and six rebounds, and Steven Glover finalized his evening with 15 points, six caroms, three assists and two steals. William Paradise added nine points and a game-high seven assists, and Taj Scott snatched a game-high nine boards.

In the victory for Suffolk, Noah Stevensen drilled eight of 10 shots from the floor to finish with a game-high 19 points. He also tied for the team-high in rebounds with eight while swatting a game-high four shots. Quinton Williams netted 18 points while grabbing six rebounds and registering three dimes, and Tyler Carey finished his night with 17 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.

The Broncos were in control for a very minor portion of tonight's game, as Bronx held a slim 9-8 edge just 3:44 into the game. Suffolk would then go on a 10-0 run over a span of 3:53 to catapult ahead by a score of 18-9. The Broncos stayed within striking distance momentarily, trailing just 25-19 with 6:38 remaining in the half, but an impressive 12-0 run by the Sharks put the Bronx in an 18-point hole (37-19) with just over 4:00 remaining in the opening half. Suffolk eventually took a 46-33 edge into the locker room at the half.

Bronx did slice its deficit to 10 (54-44) with 14:46 remaining in the game, but the Broncos recent home heroics would run out, as Suffolk would outscore the Broncos 42-28 the rest of the way to record a 24-point triumph.

The Sharks dominated in most major categories. Suffolk connected on 56.3 percent of its attempts from the floor (36-64), compared to a 38.9 percent conversion rate for Bronx (28-72). Suffolk snatched a total of 48 rebounds, compared to 34 for the Broncos, and the Sharks registered 25 assists to Bronx's 11. Suffolk held a 7-1 edge in the blocks column, but the Broncos did win the turnover battle, committing just 12 miscues while forcing 16 errors by the Sharks.

Bronx will return to the court Thursday evening, as the Broncos will welcome the Wave to the Alumni Gym. Start-time for the CUNYAC battle is scheduled for 7:00pm.
