Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tilquan Rucker's masterful night (career-high 52 points) paces Broncos past Wave, 102-83 in CUNYAC action

The Broncos men's basketball team clinched a spot in the 2019-2020 CUNYAC Community College Men's Basketball Tournament this evening, defeating the Wave of Kingsborough by a score of 102-83. The contest took place at the Alumni Gym in the Bronx. With the victory, the Broncos improved to an 8-9 mark on the season (4-2 CUNYAC), while Kingsborough slipped to a record of 1-12 (0-5 CUNYAC).

With the triumph, Bronx clinched a spot in the 2019-2020 CUNYAC Community College Men's Basketball Tournament. The Broncos seed is still not determined, however, as Bronx could still finish anywhere from 1-4 in the standings.

In tonight's victory, Tilquan Rucker scored a career-high 52 points in a magnificent performance. Not only did he pour in 52, but he did it while being incredibly efficient. The sophomore guard connected on 21 of his 31 attempts from the floor (6-10 3PT FG). He also snatched eight rebounds (five on the offensive side), tallied a game-high five steals, and dished four assists. Malik Hamilton also has himself a very impressive showing, as he posted a double-double with 27 points, a game-high 13 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and three blocks. Steven Glover also played very well, as he drilled six of his 10 shots to finalize his evening with 13 points. He also grabbed 12 caroms, while adding three dimes.

Despite the loss for Kingsborough, Joey Cohen led the way for the Wave, as he scored a team-high 18 points. He also snatched four rebounds, and added two steals. Livingston Bandie netted 11 points while snatching seven rebounds and swatting a pair of shots, and Jabari Deas and Neilson Bridgeman scored 10 points apiece.

Things look promising for struggling Kingsborough early, as the Wave held a 13-12 advantage just 8:20 into the game. A 14-2 Broncos run over a span of 2:39 would catapult Bronx to a lead of 26-15 with 9:01 remaining in the opening session. The Broncos would build their lead up to 15 at one point, before taking a semi-commanding 46-32 edge into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, Bronx continued to build its lead (thanks to the Brilliance of the trio of Rucker, Hamilton, and Glover. The Broncos went up by as many as 34 points (90-56), before eventually winning the game by 19 and punching their ticket to February's CUNYAC tourney.

Both teams had a solid night shooting the basketball, with the Broncos draining 40 of their 90 attempts from the floor (44.4 percent), and Kingsborough converting on 41.4 percent of its attempts (36-87). Bronx registered 21 assists compared to 11 for the Wave, and the Broncos won the turnover battle, committing just 13 miscues compared to 19 for the opposition. Kingsborough held a very slim edge in the rebounding department, snatching 53 boards compared to 52 for Bronx.

Since starting 2-7, the Broncos have won six of their last eight games, and they'll look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday evening, as Bronx welcomes SUNY-Orange into the Alumni Gym. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 6:00pm.
