Victories continue to pile up for Bronx, as Broncos edge Tigers 92-91 in CUNYAC thriller Saturday afternoon

The Broncos men's basketball team continued its recent surge, yesterday defeating the Tigers of Queensborough in CUNYAC action by a score of 92-91. The game took place in Bayside, NY. With the triumph, Bronx has now won six of its last eight games, improving to a mark of 7-8 on the 2019-2020 season (3-2 CUNYAC play). On the flip side, the Tigers dipped to a record of 8-5 on the season, and 2-3 in conference action.

Leading the way for Bronx was Tilquan Rucker once again. The standout scored a game-high 32 points, connecting on 13 of his 24 attempts from the floor (including 6-11 from three-point territory). He also grabbed five rebounds, registered five assists, tallied two steals, and swatted a pair of shots. Two Broncos posted double-doubles, including Steven Glover (19 points, 11 caroms, four assists, two blocks) and Malik Hamilton (16 points, 12 rebounds, two assists), and Izaiah Richardson played well, netting 13 points and snatching five rebounds. Veteran William Paradise continued to pile dimes, earning nine on the day while also contributing eight points.

For Queensborough, Mark Blair was sensational, hitting 12 of his 21 attempts from the floor, as he finished with team-highs of 30 points and 10 rebounds. Devon Matthews was incredibly efficient (9-13 FG, 6-8 3PT FG), as he finished with 29 points, four rebounds, and four assists, and Tasin Adbur-Rashid added 12 points.

Both teams shot very well from the floor, with the Broncos converting on 36 of their 68 shot attempts (52.9 percent) compared to a 47.9 percent conversion rate (34-71) for the Tigers. Bronx absolutely dominated on the glass, snatching 46 rebounds compared to 21 for Queensborough. The Broncos registered 21 assists, while the Tigers compiled 19, and both teams took care of the basketball well, with Bronx committing nine turnovers, compared to five for the Tigers.

Bronx will look to continue its winning ways on Tuesday evening, as the Broncos will welcome a very solid Suffolk County Community College team to the Alumni Gym. The two teams met earlier this season, back on November 26, when the Sharks recorded a convincing 95-71 triumph over Bronx. The Broncos will look for revenge when the two teams meet Tuesday, with tip-off set for 7:00pm.
