Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bergen scores two unanswered second half goals to slip by Broncos, 2-1

The Broncos men's soccer team suffered a tough defeat on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Bulldogs of Bergen by a score of 2-1 in a match that was played in Paramus, NJ. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to 1-1 on the 2019 campaign, while Bergen also evened its recorded at 1-1.

After 30 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Broncos notched the first goal of the afternoon, as a beautiful Andaine Campbell pass set up Ruddy Segura, who found himself on a breakaway. He dribbled in and blasted the ball into the net to give Bronx a 1-0 edge. That would turn out to be the lone goal of the opening stanza, as the Broncos held the aforementioned slim margin after 45 minutes of play.

Bergen tied the match in the early stages of the second half, as Camilo Vargas crossed the ball over to Victor Amendano who slipped the ball past Bronx netminder Vsevolod Orlov to make it 1-1. 25 minutes later (71:00), Vargas would score what turned out to be the game-winning goal, burying a penalty kick to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 edge. The Broncos were unable to net the equalizer over the final 19 minutes of action, sending them to their first loss of the year.

Bronx will look to bounce back on Tuesday afternoon, as the Broncos will open up their CUNYAC portion of the schedule against the Borough of Manhattan Community College. The game will take place at Ohio Field, and start-time is scheduled for 3:30pm.
