Broncos record exhilarating 3-2 overtime victory over CUNYAC foe Kingsborough on Thursday afternoon

The Broncos men's soccer team kept its CUNYAC championship aspirations alive on Thursday afternoon, as Bronx defeated the Wave of Kingsborough by a score of 3-2 in overtime on a rainy and cool day. The match took place at Ohio Field. With the victory, the Broncos improved to 4-4 on the 2019 campaign (1-1 CUNYAC), while Kingsborough fell to 2-4 (0-2 CUNYAC).

The lone goal of the opening half came via the unassisted variety, when Robert Afful tapped a ball home to give his team a 1-0 advantage. The Broncos out-shot the Wave by a count of 14-1 over the course of the opening 45 minutes, peppering six shots on goal during that time.

In the opening minute of the second half, Kingsborough knotted things at one goal apiece when Ashely Petit scored an unassisted goal. 12 minutes later, at 58:00, Gerson Gonzalez put the Broncos back ahead by a goal, burying a penalty kick to give Bronx a 2-1 edge.

Later, at 87:27, the Wave would tie the match when Wave Lee Donne would score to make it 2-2. That would be the final goal of regulation, as the match headed to overtime.

46 seconds into the extra session, the Broncos would win the game when Patrick Otoo sent a pass up the field to a sprinting Gonzalez, who blasted the ball into the net, giving Bronx the victory and sending the Broncos bench into a frenzy.
The Broncos out-shot Kingsborough by a final count of 31-11 on the afternoon. Bronx was whistled for 22 fouls compared to 15 for the opposition.

Bronx netminder Vsevolod Orlov registered seven saves in earning the victory, while Kingsborough goaltender Jovensky Dieudonne stopped nine shots.

The Broncos will return to action on Tuesday, as they'll travel to Valhalla, NY to battle Westchester. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 4:00pm.
