Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Broncos suffer first road shutout loss of the season, falling to Westchester, 5-0

The Broncos men's soccer team dropped a road match on Tuesday afternoon, getting shut down by the Vikings of Westchester by a score of 5-0 in a match that took place in Valhalla, NY. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to a mark of 4-5 on the 2019 campaign, while the Vikings improved to 7-2 on the season, recording their fifth shutout of the year in the process.

Things looked promising early on, as Bronx played an aggressive style, recording the first seven shots of the match. On the flip side, Westchester dominated the final five minutes of the opening stanza, controlling possession and keeping the ball deep in Bronco territory. Still, neither team was able to record that first goal, and time expired on the opening session with the match scoreless.

Finally, at 66:23 of the match, Westchester's Jose Tovar was pulled down in the box, drawing a penalty kick, which was buried by Leo Olos Moura to give the Vikings a 1-0 advantage. Less than eight minutes later, Juan Torres collected a Jordan Bennett crossing pass, and fired a shot inside the near left post to increase Westchester's edge to 2-0.

Three minutes later Luis Madriz fired a shot from an extremely difficult angle and converted, catapulting the Vikings to a 3-0 lead. Then, at 81:56, Juan Espinosa navigated behind the Bronx defense, and scored on a breakaway thanks to a beautiful pass from Torres, to make it 4-0 Westchester.

The scoring capped at 87:07 when Tuane Tapper registered a goal, capitalizing on an incredible pass from Jason Almedia to bury the ball home.

Westchester took 14 of the final 15 shots for the match, and out-shot the Broncos by a final count of 19-18. Bronx earned five corner kicks compared to a pair of the Vikings, and the Broncos were whistled for 16 fouls, compared to 12 for the opposition.

The Broncos will return to action on Thursday evening, as Bronx will travel to East Meadow, NY to take on Nassau. Start-time for the clash with the Lions is set for 6:00pm.
