Despite strong performance from Nossamba Kone and Nayely Rodriguez, Broncos drop CUNYAC match to Kingborough

The Broncos women's volleyball team dropped a three-set CUNYAC match on Tuesday evening, falling to the Wave of Kingsborough by scores of 16-25, 14-25, and 20-25 at Alumni Gymnasium. With the loss, Bronx slipped to 0-10 on the 2019 campaign (0-3 in conference competition). The Wave improved to 2-3 on the year (1-1 CUNYAC).

After taking the first set, Kingsborough raced out to advantages of 10-0 and 14-1 in the second before cruising to victory in that set as well. Later, in the third set, things looked promising for Bronx, as the Broncos held a 16-11 edge, and looked poised to push the match to a fourth set. Kingsborough, however, had other plans, as the Wave outscored Bronx 14-4 for the remainder of the set to clinch the victory.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, freshman Nossamba Kone led Bronx with eight kills while also recording six digs on the evening. Nayely Rodriguez put together a fine all-around effort, tallying six kills, and posting team-highs of 11 assists, nine digs, and four service aces. Nicole Santos also added four kills and a pair of assists, as well.

In the victory for the Wave, Kingsborough was paced by Prishany Skinner, as she posted a match-high 11 kills while hitting .333 for the evening. Kinga Kupras also contributed in a big way, collecting a match-high 11 service aces while adding five digs and four kills. Brianna Ramos' 12 assists were a match-high, and she also tallied five digs and four kills.

The Broncos will return to action on Saturday afternoon, as they'll travel to Garden City, NY to play a pair of matches. The first will be against Nassau at 12:00pm, following by a clash with Suffolk at 1:15pm.
