Powerful Queensborough too much for Broncos as Bronx falls in three sets

The Broncos women's volleyball team lost in straight sets to the defending CUNYAC champion Tigers of Queensborough last night, falling by scores of 9-25, 8-25, and 17-25. The match took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the loss, the Broncos slipped to 0-4 overall (0-2 CUNYAC), while the Tigers improved their mark to 3-1 (1-0 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for Bronx, newcomer Nayely Rodriguez continued to impress, as she recorded a match-high eight kills while hitting .227. She also tied for the match-high in digs with 12, while also recording a pair of assists. In addition, it was Alondra Mesa adding nine digs, a kill, and an assist.

For Queensborough, Chidera Nwaghanata paced her squad, tallying a team-high seven kills while hitting .333 for the match, and Tiffany Garcia-Lawson contributed five kills. Amira Durkovic compiled a match-high 12 assists, and Rachel Medina tied for the match-high with 12 digs.

The Tigers hit .254 for the match with just seven hitting errors, while also collecting 19 service aces.

Bronx will look to get in the win column on Thursday evening, as the Broncos will stay home and welcome the Owls of Union County College. Start time at the Alumni Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00pm.
