Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Broncos connect on just 15.3 percent of shot attempts in 45-26 defeat to Panthers Tuesday evening

The Broncos women's basketball team continued to search for that elusive first victory of the 2019-2020 campaign, as earlier tonight, Bronx fell to the Panthers of BMCC in a CUNYAC game by a score of 45-26. With the defeat, the Broncos slipped to a mark of 0-9 on the season (0-3 CUNYAC). BMCC, which was also struggling coming in, improved to 2-5 on the year (2-1 in conference play).

Despite the loss for Bronx, Jada Parker and Ashley Soto scored nine points apiece, and Natalie Encarnacion netted eight points while snatching a team-high 17 rebounds.

Lauren Malcolm led the way for the Panthers in their victory, as he scored a game-high 13 points (6-14 FG) while pulling down 11 rebounds. She also added four steals and a pair of blocks, as well. Quiana Baez and Aniyah Davis netted eight points apiece, and Shyasia Preston put forth a versatile effort, scoring seven points, snatching a game-high 20 rebounds, collecting three steals, and adding a pair of assists.

In what was a very low scoring game, BMCC held an 11-4 lead after one quarter of play, and a modest 21-12 advantage at halftime. The Panthers went up by as many as 20 points in the second session, before eventually solidifying a 19-point win.

Both teams weren't able to gain any momentum shooting the basketball this evening. The Panthers connected on just 23.8 percent of their attempts from the floor (20-83), while the Broncos converted on 15.3 percent of their shots (9-59). BMCC dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Bronx 54-41, and the Panthers won the turnover battle, forcing 33 Broncos miscues while committing 23 of their own.

The Broncos will look to bounce back on Thursday evening, as Bronx will welcome the Tigers of Queensborough to the Alumni Gym for another CUNYAC contest. Start-time is scheduled for 5:00pm.
