Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tilquan Rucker joins elite company by reaching 1,000 points for his career in Bronx's 91-90 overtime loss to Senators

The Broncos men's basketball team came up just short of picking up a road victory on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Senators of SUNY Ulster by a score of 91-90 in overtime. The game took place in Stone Ridge, NY. With the loss, Bronx slipped to 1-5 on the 2019-2020 campaign, while the Senators improved to a mark of 2-3, winning their second straight game.

Despite the loss for Bronx, guard Tilquan Rucker joined elite company during the game, as he scored his 1,000th point, becoming just the third Broncos player in the history of the program to accomplish such a feat. In the contest, he netted a game-high 32 points, catapulting his career total to 1,014 points. He currently sits just 34 points behind former Bronco Ronnell Ross for second place on the all-time list. In addition to his stellar scoring output against SUNY Ulster, he also posted a game-high 14 rebounds, while also tying for the game-high in steals with three.

In addition to Rucker's great performance, Malik Hamilton registered his fourth double-double of the season, netting 19 points while snatching 10 rebounds. He also contributed three steals and three assists, as well. Andre Carthorn netted 19 points and swiped two steals, and Brian Urena finalized his afternoon with 13 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high six blocks, to go along with three steals and a pair of assists.

In the victory for the Senators, SUNY Ulster was paced by Rayquan Bryant, as he posted a team-high 23 points while grabbing five rebounds, tying for the game-high with five assists, and grabbing five rebounds. Kervin Benoit drained 11 of his 13 attempts from the line on his way to finishing with 22 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Chase Monroe posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 caroms, and Michael Alamo-Benite and Liam Schoonmaker netted 14 points apiece.

The shooting percentage for the teams was nearly identical in this one, with Bronx shooting just a tad better (37-88, 42 percent) compared to SUNY Ulster's 41.3 percent (31-75). The Senators won the rebounding battle by a slim margin (44-40), and the Broncos protected the ball better, committing just 16 turnovers compared to 19 for SUNY Ulster.

The Broncos will return to action on Tuesday evening in what will be a big game in the Bronx. Nassau Community College, which defeated the Broncos three times last season by only 29 points combined, will come to the Alumni Gym for a 7:30pm game. The Lions eliminated Bronx from the NJCA Division III Region XV Championship Tournament in the quarterfinals during the 2018-2019 season by a score of 71-60 (February 26, 2019).
