The Broncos men's basketball team suffered a tough defeat on Tuesday evening, falling to the Express of Monroe-Bronx by a score of 84-80. With the loss, the Broncos slipped to a mark of 1-4 on the 2019-2020 campaign, while the Express improved to a record of 2-1.

Despite the loss, Bronx standout Tilquan Rucker continued his tremendous offensive outputs. This evening, he led all scorers with 35 points while converting on 12 of his 17 shots from the floor. He also drained 10 of his 12 opportunities from the charity stripe while registering a game-high five steals and grabbing five boards.

Malik Hamilton fell one rebound short of recording his fourth double-double of the season, as he finalized his evening with 22 points (10-15 FG) and nine rebounds. Newcomer Brian Urena added 11 points and nine rebounds, and Andre Carthorn finished his night with six points, four rebounds, and a pair of assists.

Five players scored in double figures for the Express this evening, including Isiah Ryan, as he netted a team-high 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and three steaks. Adonis Robinson finalized his night with 20 points, and Derek Smith registered a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Finally, it was Eric Goodman and Loquan Deloatch netting 10 points apiece.

Things looked promising for the Broncos through the first 14:30 of the opening half, as Bronx spent that aforementioned amount of time building a 14-point advantage (38-24). Monroe-Bronx would finish the first half strong, though, as the Express hit on 11 of their 15 shots from the remainder of the session to outscore the Broncos 24-6 to close the half. As the team entered the locker room at halftime, Monroe-Bronx held a 48-44 edge.

With 11:04 remaining in the game, the Express was clinging to a slim 67-65 advantage. That's when Bronx would go on an 11-2 run to grab a 76-69 lead with 7:07 to go. That run featured a converted layup by Rucker, three consecutive buckets by Hamilton, and a good layup and converted free throw by Rucker.

Monroe-Bronx stormed back, going on a 9-0 run over the ensuing 3:50 to take a 78-76 lead. During that 3:50 stretch, the Broncos were 0-for-6 from the floor. Later, with the game tied 78 apiece, the Express took the lead for good when Robinson dropped in a layup with 1:37 remaining. Monroe-Bronx would never trail again, eventually advancing to win the contest by an 84-80 final.

The Broncos lost the game despite shooting more efficiently from the floor. Bronx hit on 53.4 percent of its attempts for the night (31-58), compared to a 49.4 percent conversion rate for Monroe-Bronx (39-79). Both teams struggled from downtown, with the Broncos draining just 2-for-12 from three-point territory (16.7 percent). The Express went 2-for-11 from long range (18.2 percent).
