Despite valiant effort, Bronx falls in straight sets to Express on Tuesday evening, 10-25, 21-25, and 16-25

The Broncos women's volleyball team put forth a valiant effort on Tuesday evening, but ultimately fell in three sets to the Express of Monroe-Bronx, by scores of 10-25, 21-25, and 16-25. The match was played at the Alumni Gym. With the defeat, Bronx slipped to 0-13 on the 2019 campaign, while the Express improved to a mark of 10-1.

In the early stages of the opening set, Bronx held 6-5 advantage, but Monroe-Bronx scored 13 of the set's next 14 points to grab a commanding 18-7 edge. The Express would advance to win the set convincingly, by 15.

The second set proved to be the most competitive of the evening, as the Broncos held leads of 11-8, 13-10, 16-14, and 19-18. The Express would rally from there through, finishing strong by outscoring the Broncos 7-2 to grab a 25-21 set victory.

Bronx hung in there in the third set as well, trailing just 18-14 before the Express capped their evening with yet another late set surge, scoring seven of the final nine points to win 25-16.

Leading the way for Monroe-Bronx in its victory was Julie Trowers, as she recorded 11 kills on the evening while committing just four errors and hitting .333 for the match. Dennyfer Hernandez also put forth a strong showing, mirroring Trowers with a match-high 11 kills. Hernandez also added three digs, as well. Jeribeth Hodge put forth a nice all-around performance, finishing her evening with a match-high 24 assists to go along with four digs and three service aces.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, Bronx was paced by Nossamba Kone, as she recorded a team-bests of four kills and three service aces. She also contributed five digs and an assist. Nayely Rodriguez added a pair of kills, a team-high five assists, and four digs. Finally, it was Alondra Mesa contributing team-high seven digs.

Monroe-Bronx hit .189 for the evening compared to -.281 for the Broncos.

The Broncos will return to action on Saturday afternoon, as Bronx will travel to Middletown, NY to face SUNY Orange at 12:00pm, followed by a clash with SUNY Sullivan at 1:15pm.
