Broncos honor sophomores before recording exhilarating five set victory over Five Towns College

The Broncos wrapped up their home portion of the schedule on Wednesday evening, turning back the Sound of Five Towns College by scores of 11-25, 25-23, 25-20, 20-25, and 15-12 at the Alumni Gymnasium. With the victory, Bronx improved to a mark of 3-16 on the 2019 campaign, while Five Towns College dipped to 3-11 on the year.

Prior to the match, Bronx sophomores Alondra Mesa, Cleimy Ozoria, and Floranni Tejada were honored for her two years of service to the Bronx Community College women's volleyball program. All three of the aforementioned student-athletes were presented with commemorative action photo picture frames, as well as bouquets of flowers, and gift bags.

The Sound dominated the opening set, racing out to a 14-0 advantage before advancing to win it by a score of 25-11. Bronx was in danger of dropping the second set as well, as the Broncos trailed set No. 2 by a score of 22-19. Bronx would stage a rally, though, registering six of the final seven points of the set to tie the match 1-1.

Bronx won set No. 3 25-20, and Five Towns won the fourth set by that same score to force a fifth and deciding set. The Broncos sprinted out to a commanding 5-0 edge in the fifth set, before eventually grinding out a 15-12 victory.

In her final home match as a Bronco, Ozoria put together a tremendous effort, registering nine kills to go along with five digs, four assists, three service aces, and two solo blocks. Nossamba Kone contributed nine kills and seven digs, and Nicole Santos added eight kills and six digs. Mesa also turned in a balanced effort, contributing 19 digs, four kills, and three assists.

The Broncos will wrap-up their regular season on Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, as Bronx will play a pair of CUNYAC matches against Queensborough (12:00pm) and Kingsborough (1:30pm).
