Broncos suffer pair of three-set defeats Saturday, falling to Dutchess and Monroe-Bronx

The Broncos women's volleyball team suffered a pair of defeats on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Falcons of Dutchess by scores of 21-25, 13-25, and 19-25, and to the Express of Monroe-Bronx by scores of 21-25, 11-25, and 12-25. The matches took place on the campus of Monroe-Bronx. With the defeats, the Broncos slipped to a mark of 1-17 on the 2019 campaign.

In the Broncos loss to the Falcons, Bronx was paced by Nicole Santos, as she registered a team-high four kills to go along with five digs. Nossamba Kone contributed three kills and five digs, and Nayely Rodriguez added a match-high 15 digs to go along with a team-best six assists. Cleimy Ozoria tied for the match-high with six service aces, and Alondra Mesa finished with 12 digs, a pair of assists, and a pair of service aces.

The Falcons received huge contributions from Winnie Carabin in their victory, as she recorded a match-high 12 kills, tied for match-highs in service aces with six and digs with nine, all while adding three assists. Hailee Pezze picked up eight kills for the match while contributing nine digs (earning a share for the match-high in digs). Emily Aldrich and Riess Lovett each contributed nine assists apiece.

In the Broncos loss to the Express, Kone recorded a team-high three kills to go along with a pair of digs. Rodriguez registered team-highs of eight digs and five assists, and Mesa contributed a pair of service aces. Bronx recorded just seven kills for the match.

Monroe-Bronx was paced by Dennyfer Hernandez and Luz Frias in its victory. Hernandez finished with eight kills, five digs, and two service aces, and Frias contributed eight kills, one solo block, and one block assist. Jeribeth Hodge registered a match-high 21 assists, and Smeritte Colon and Irianna Castillo tallied 15 and 11 digs, respectively.

The Broncos will return to action on Wednesday afternoon, as Bronx will play its final home match of the season against Five Towns College. Start-time at the Alumni Gym is scheduled for 7:00pm.
