The Broncos' men's basketball team suffered a defeat in its first game of calendar year 2019, falling to the Tigers of Queensborough by a score of 79-66 in a CUNYAC contest played in Bayside, NY. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to a record of 4-8 overall (2-3 CUNYAC), while the Tigers evened their record at 7-7 while catapulting to a mark of 3-2 in conference competition.
Despite the loss for Bronx,
Tilquan Rucker put forth another dazzling performance, as he scored a game-high 33 points while connecting on 14 of his 29 shots from the floor. He also snatched five rebounds and added three steals, as well.
Hector Montano posted another double-double with 14 points and a game-high 18 boars, and
Malik Hamilton contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, and a pair of steals.
In Queensborough's victory, the Tigers benefitted from five players scoring double figures. Devon Matthews scored a team-high 17 points, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc on the evening while adding a game-high four steals. He also snatched five rebounds and tallied three assists, as well. Mark Blair contributed 15 points and nine rebounds, and Darron Williams posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 caroms. Marcus Watson and Keison McIntoush netted 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Tigers connected on 35.9 percent of its shots (28-78), while the Broncos drained 26 of their 81 attempts from the floor (32.1 percent). Bronx out-rebounded the Queensborough 55-47, but the Tigers won the turnover battle by a wide margin, committing just 17 miscues while forcing 28 Broncos mistakes. Queensborough recorded 17 assists on the evening, compared to just seven for Bronx.
The Broncos will return to action on Friday evening, as Bronx will host Bergen Community College at the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time for the game is scheduled for 7:00pm.
