Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer team puts forth valiant effort in 3-2 overtime defeat at hands of Monroe College-Bronx on Tuesday afternoon

The Broncos' men's soccer team suffered a tough loss on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Express of Monroe College-Bronx by a score of 3-2 in overtime. The match took place at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, NY. With the defeat, Bronx slipped to 1-3 on the 2018 campaign, while Monroe College-Bronx improved its mark to 3-2 on the year.

The Express got on the scoreboard first, cashing in on a penalty kick in the 24th minute (23:13). Abdoul Sangare earned the penalty kick opportunity and buried it, giving his team a 1-0 advantage. About three minutes later, at 26:11, Erick Leon blasted a shot from inside the box that curled in, catapulting the Express' lead to a pair of goals. Ryan Smart assisted on that goal.

Bronx would answer back fairly quickly following Leon's goal, as Shaibu Musah sliced a shot into the net from inside the box to bring his team within a goal. Lamin Mybe was credited with an assist on the goal. Later, at the 56:14 mark, the Broncos would tie the game on an unassisted goal by Adamou Agoroh. Agoroh's shot from the right wing found its way into the net, and the contest was knotted as two goals apiece.

Neither team was able to score a go-ahead goal in regulation, so the match headed to overtime. Just 1:59 into the overtime session, Ryan Smart netted the game-winner for Monroe College-Bronx.

The Express dominated the shots category in this one despite the competitive nature of the contest, out-shooting Bronx by a count of 32-9, including a difference of 20-2 in the second half.

Anthony Williams started the game in net for Bronx, allowing two goals and making three saves in 45:16 of action, James Amoafo Kumi came on after that, and he was stellar, allowing just the overtime goal and stopping nine Express shots in 54:44 of action.

The Broncos will now have six days off before returning to the pitch, as they'll face Suffolk County Community College on September 25. The match will take place in Selden, NY, with a start-time of 4:00pm.
