Box Score

The Broncos suffered an unbalanced defeat on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Fighting Hawks of Rockland Community College by a score of 13-2. The game ended after six innings after the mercy rule was enforced. Bronx – which is now 15-11 on the 2018 season – suffered just its second home loss in 10 attempts this season.

Rockland broke the game open in the top of the third inning when – while holding a slim 3-2 advantage – tacked on another six runs to catapult out to a commanding 9-2 edge. The Fighting Hawks would eventually record four additional runs throughout the course of the game, eventually picking up a very convincing victory against a very stingy Bronx unit.

Jesse Castillo got the start for the Broncos, but he struggled in a big way, lasting just one and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs (five earned) while giving up five hits, issuing a pair of walks, and striking out two. Ariel Irving Lora grinded through nearly four frames (3.2), allowing seven runs (only three earned) while allowing nine hits, walking one, and striking out five.

On the flip side, Alex Perich started and reorded the win for Rockland Community College, as he tossed two and two-thirds innings, allowing just two earned runs, scattering five hits, walking five, and striking out three. Vincent Criscuolo was masterful in relief, as he recorded three and one-third innings, allowing just one hit and walking one while whiffing six.

Offensively for the Bronx, it was Lora recording a pair of doubles despite the loss, and
Jeffrey Almanzar added a double while driving in a run.

The Fighting Hawks recorded 15 hits on the afternoon, including five from Patrick Bateman who was practically unstoppable for his team on this day, as he recorded a hit in all five of his at-bats, recording five singles, scoring four runs, and driving in five. Alex Perich doubled, picked up a pair of singles, scored three runs, drove in a run, and walked once, and Chris Perich added three singles while denting home plate three times.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday – as the Broncos will take on the Lions of Nassau Community College. The meeting will serve as the fourth and final confrontation between the two squads for 2018. The game takes place at Ohio Field, with first pitch scheduled for 4:00pm.
