Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Broncos relinquish 11-point first half lead, fall to Falcons 65-62 at Alumni Gymnasium on Tuesday evening

The Broncos' men's basketball team dropped another tough game on Tuesday evening, as the Falcons of Dutchess inched by Bronx by a score of 65-62 at Alumni Gymnasium. With the defeat, the Broncos slipped to 2-6 on the 2018-2019 campaign, while the Falcons got back to the .500 mark at 5-5.

For Bronx, the team has now suffered five defeats by eight points or less. Three of those five losses have come at the Alumni Gym.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, Tilquan Rucker continued to play incredible basketball for Bronx, as he posted a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. He also added four steals, as well. Malik Hamilton netted 14 points, snatched six rebounds, and posted a team-high five steals, and Elijah Lopez added 10 points, five rebounds, and a game-high six assists.

In the victory for Dutchess, the Falcons were paced by Bryce Khan, as he scored a game-high 25 points while adding five steals and three assists. Danny Duffy also put together a productive all-around performance for Dutchess, as he scored eight points, added a game-high seven steals, and recorded four assists.

Things looked promising for Bronx early, as the Broncos built a double digit lead, going ahead by a score of 24-13 with 7:19 remaining in the opening half. Over the ensuing 6:20 though, the Falcons went on a 15-2 run to grab a 28-25 lead. A jumper by Bronx' Malik Hamilton brought the Broncos to within a point, 28-27. That would be the score as the teams entered the locker room at halftime.

From 15:08 remaining the game until 1:18 left on the clock, neither team held more than a five-point advantage. Dutchess led 61-58 with a little more than a minute remaining before Hamilton drilled a three pointer to tie the game at 61 apiece. Later, Rucker would split a pair of free throws to put Bronx up 62-61 with 58 ticks left on the clock, but that would be the last point the Broncos would score.

A pair of consecutive converted free throws by Bryce Khan put the Falcons ahead 63-62 with 38 seconds remaining. Danny Duffy would add to the Falcons' slim lead by draining two freebees with nine seconds remaining to catapult Dutchess to a 65-62 advantage. Bronx' William Paradise would misfire on a potential game-tying three-point basket on the Broncos' final possession, and the Falcons held on for a hard-fought victory.

The shooting percentages in this game were almost even, with Dutchess converting on 39.3 percent of its attempts (24-61) compared to 37.8 percent for Bronx (28-74). Poor free throw shooting doomed Bronx, as the Broncos misfired on 10 of their 15 attempts at the charity stripe (33 percent) compared to the Falcons, who hit on 10 of their 15 (66 percent). Bronx held a 48-43 advantage in the rebounding department, while also slightly winning the turnover battle, committing 26 to Dutchess' 27.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday, as they'll face ASA in Brooklyn, NY. Start-time for that game is scheduled for 7:30pm.
