Women's basketball team uses strong efforts from Kayla Martinez and Asia Nelson in 58-45 victory over Dutchess

The Broncos' women's basketball team snapped its four-game losing streak on Tuesday evening, defeating the Falcons of Dutchess by a score of 58-45 at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the triumph, Bronx is now 2-5 on the 2018-2019 campaign, while Dutchess is still searching for its first victory, falling to 0-7 with the defeat.

Pacing the Broncos in their victory was Asia Nelson, as she scored a team-high 22 points while snatching 18 rebounds, and adding a game-high five blocks. Kayla Martinez added 19 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists, and it was Shanellys Valdez scoring 12 points, snatching five caroms, adding five assists, and two steals.

Despite the loss for the Falcons, Dutchess was led by Tianna Fumasoli, as she netted a game-high 29 points. She also snatched five rebounds and added three assists. Julie Madsen contributed with nine points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks, as well.

Bronx connected on just 28.1 percent of its shots from the floor (25-89) in the victory, while Dutchess converted on just 25.7 percent of its attempts (18-70). The Broncos dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Falcons by a count of 75-48, while also swatting six shots to Dutchess' four. The Falcons marginally won the turnover battle, committing 17 miscues to Bronx' 18.

The Broncos will now have a week off before returning to action on Tuesday, December 11, as Bronx will host BMCC at the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time is scheduled for 5:00pm.
