The Broncos' men's soccer team suffered a loss on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Vikings of Westchester by a score of 2-0 at Ohio Field. With the defeat, Bronx slipped to 2-4 on the 2018 campaign, while the Vikings improved to a mark of 6-2.
Westchester's first goal came just 4:05 into the game courtesy of Wali Azizi. The Vikings' William Morais and Luis Galeano each picked up assists on the tally. That would be the lone goal of the opening session, as Westchester held a 1-0 edge as the team's broke for halftime.
The Vikings would add an insurance goal at 61:19 when Franco Guevarra would find the back of the net (Azizi notched the assist) to give his team a 2-0 advantage. That would be the final goal of the game, as Westchester's stingy defense failed to allow the Broncos many quality scoring opportunities.
Westchester held a slim 18-14 edge in the shots category, and the Broncos committed 24 fouls compared to 17 for the Vikings.
Vikings netminder Guilherme Griza made seven saves in earning the shutout. His counterpart, Bronx'
James Amoafo Kumi, made six saves despite allowing the two goals.
Bronx will return to action on Thursday, as the Broncos will take on Nassau at Ohio Field. Start-time is schedule for 3:30pm.
