On "Dig Pink" night at Alumni Gym, Broncos exhilarate fans with five set victory over Hostos Community College

The Broncos' women's volleyball team won for the fifth time in its last seven tries, tonight defeating the Caimans of Hostos Community College in five sets by scores of 25-14, 23-25, 25-17, 18-25, and 15-9 in a match that took place at the Alumni Gym on "Dig Pink" night. With the victory, Bronx improved to 7-14 on the 2018 campaign (1-4 CUNYAC), while Hostos slipped to 0-16 overall (0-5 in conference competition).

Prior to the CUNYAC contest, there was a very moving and emotional "Dig Pink" pre-game ceremony featuring selected players from both teams speaking about the illness in an attempt to bring awareness to the forefront. 

Additionally, Broncos sophomore Sthefany Jimenez was honored for her two years of service to the Bronx Community College women's volleyball program.

As for the match, Angelica Aquino led the way for the Broncos, as she posted team-highs of seven kills, 11 service aces, and 10 digs, while hitting .227 on the evening. Cleimy Ozoria added four kills, five service aces, and four digs, and Sthefany Jimene and Heder Rodriguez contributed eight and seven assists, respectively.

Despite the loss for the Caimans, Hostos' Milta Rodriguez recorded match-highs of 12 kills and 13 digs, while Reyna Cano posted a match-high 12 service aces. Silvely Abreu led all players on the evening with 14 assists. She also contributed 11 digs, as well.

The Broncos and Caimans will play a rematch on Thursday evening, as the two teams will lock horns at Hostos Community College in another CUNYAC contest. Start time is scheduled for 7:30pm.
