Box Score 3 Following their 4-3 victory in the CUNYAC Championship game, the Broncos entered into the Region XV tournament. After losing their opening round game against Nassau, they fended off Queensborough to remain alive. Playing their third game in two days, BCC fell to the Sharks 8-0 to end their season.
The #3 seeded Broncos took on the #2 seeded Nassau Lions, after losing the season series 3-1, the Broncos played tough but lost in a close 5-3 decision. The Lions sent Andrew Judge to the mound, the sophomore pitched 8 strong innings, allowing just 3 runs (1 earned) to stay in the winner's bracket. James Parise led the charge on offense for Nassau, going 1 for 3 with 2 RBI, while David Hawley went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. For the Broncos,
Andres Otero Jr. went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
The Bronx Broncos squared off against the Tigers of Queensborough to open the second round of the regional tournament. The Broncos beat out their CUNYAC rivals 8-4 to advance to the next round. BCC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning off the bats of
Edwin Hidalgo and
Francisco Ogando. But, the Tigers kept within striking distance throughout the game behind a strong pitching performance from Christopher Miller. Queensborough fought their way back into the game with back-to-back RBIs from Kevin Bongiovanni and Nicholas Zuvic in the 8
th inning. With the bases loaded and a slim 5-4 lead, Bronx catcher
Jose Marte picked the runner off at first to get his team out of a jam.
After this momentum swing, the Broncos pulled ahead to a 4 run lead in the bottom of the inning on a 2-run single from
Andres Otero Jr. and a triple from CUNYAC Player of the Year
Francisco Ogando. With the win, BCC would go on to face the loser of Game 4.
In the final game of the day, BCC took on the Suffolk for a spot in the championship game. The Sharks were too much to handle as Broncos fell 8-0.
Following an impressive defensive start from the Bronx in which they allowed just 1 hit in the first 4 innings, they committed 6 errors in the last half of the game. Kris Killackey pitched lights out for the Sharks, giving up just 2 hits while keeping the Broncos scoreless in eight innings of work.
Despite the tough loss in the regional tournament, the Broncos had a season full of individual milestones and team achievements. Congratulations to the baseball team on their successful season.
