Spencer Middleton was tabbed the Head Coach of Bronx Community College's women's basketball program in August of 2026.
A highly respected coach and mentor throughout New York City's basketball community, Middleton brings more than 15 years of coaching experience spanning the youth, high school, and collegiate levels. His extensive background in player development, recruiting, and community engagement makes him an ideal leader as Bronx Community College continues to build a championship-caliber women's basketball program.
"Coach Middleton is the perfect individual to continue the revitalization of the women's basketball program," said Director of Athletics Dionne Dodson. "He has the city youth connections and coaching experience needed to compete not only among the CUNY community colleges and our Region XV opponents, but also nationally."
Most recently, Middleton served as an assistant coach for the women's basketball program at SUNY Westchester Community College from 2021-24. During his tenure, he assisted in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, practice planning, player development, game preparation, and maintaining team statistics during road contests. He also worked closely with student-athletes to improve their individual skills while cultivating relationships throughout the basketball and coaching communities.
Prior to his collegiate coaching experience, Middleton spent four seasons at Cardinal Spellman High School, serving as the girls' junior varsity head coach from 2019-22 before being elevated to varsity assistant coach during the 2022-23 season. His work helped develop student-athletes both on and off the court while contributing to one of New York City's respected girls' basketball programs.
Middleton has also established himself as one of the Bronx's leading advocates for youth basketball. Since 2015, he has served as the Founder and Program Director of Bronx Storm Sports Incorporated, a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing young athletes through organized local and travel basketball. Through the program, Middleton has mentored countless student-athletes, helping prepare them academically and athletically while assisting with the recruiting process and connecting them with high school, collegiate, and professional coaches.
In 2017, Middleton co-founded the NY Cup Foundation for Academic and Sports Excellence, where he serves as Director and Commissioner. The organization has grown into one of the region's premier girls' basketball tournament organizations, hosting highly competitive events for middle school, high school, college, and professional players while promoting academic achievement alongside athletic excellence.
Middleton also enjoyed tremendous success during his 12-year tenure as the girls' varsity head coach at St. Theresa Sports Program, where he guided the program to multiple CYO, Borough, and State Championships. In addition to coaching, he assisted with league scheduling and tournament operations while preparing hundreds of young athletes for success at the high school level.
Dodson believes Middleton's passion for mentoring student-athletes and his deep roots in New York City's basketball community will make an immediate impact on the Broncos program.
"Coach Middleton brings an energy, passion, and commitment to our women's basketball program we haven't had for a long time," Dodson said. "His love for basketball and the impact he will have on our student-athletes was evident from our first conversation."
Middleton's philosophy emphasizes academic achievement, personal accountability, and competitive excellence. Throughout his coaching career, he has been committed to helping student-athletes reach the next level, both in the classroom and on the basketball court.
"I am extremely excited for the future of BCC Women's Basketball under Coach Middleton's guidance," Dodson added.
As head coach, Middleton will oversee all aspects of the Bronx Community College women's basketball program, including recruiting, player development, academic success, practice and game preparation, and community engagement.
With his proven ability to develop talent, build meaningful relationships, and inspire student-athletes, Middleton is poised to lead the Broncos into an exciting new era as the program continues its pursuit of success within CUNY, Region XV, and beyond.
