Momodou Sawaneh

The Bronx Community College Department of Athletics announced the appointment of Momodou Sawaneh as the new Head Men’s Soccer Coach in September 2025. Following the announcement of the hiring, Director of Athletics Dionne Dodson spoke about Coach Sawaneh joining the BCC coaching ranks.

“We are extremely excited for Momodou Sawaneh to join the Broncos. We are fortunate to bring someone with the technical and professional experience Coach Sawaneh possesses. He understands what’s needed to build a championship caliber team. His experience as a CUNY community college and a Region XV student-athlete will be a tremendous asset to our student-athletes. We are looking forward to watching Coach Sawaneh and his staff elevate our men’s soccer program.”

This will be the first head coaching opportunity for Coach after multiple assistant coaching posts. Recently, he spent one full season as an assistant at Dominican University. There, he help to rebuilding the program. The new BCC head man also spent seven seasons as an assistant at Queensborough Community College, giving him plenty of coaching experience within the CUNY and NJCAA landscape.

Coach Sawaneh currently serves as a Youth Soccer Coach for New York City FC. There, he works as a select head coach and coach mentee within the academy. Sawaneh assists the girl’s team by covering training sessions, all while teaching aspiring soccer players key skills. He also spent six years as an Academy soccer coach at Faeuro New York. There, he developed young players, preparing them to compete at the highest level. Additionally, Coach Sawaneh balanced a plethora of responsibilities, including recruiting, planning training sessions, and running practices.

As a student-athlete, Momodou earned a full soccer scholarship and competed in soccer for Adelphi University. Serving as a defender/midfielder during the 2013 and 2014 campaigns, he played a big role in helping the Panthers compile 23 victories and qualify for the NE10 Conference Tournament twice. He earned All-Region honors on three occasions for his efforts as a member of the school’s men’s soccer and track and field teams. Prior to Adelphi, Momodou was a two-year student-athlete at Queensborough. There, he also served as the captain of the soccer and track & field teams. He was an NJCAA All-American, as well as a CUNYAC All-Star, in both men’s soccer and track & field. Sawaneh was named Student-Athlete of the Year for the 2012-2013 athletic year

Momodou Sawaneh played semi-professional soccer for Lansdowne Yonkers, the Brooklyn Knights (PDL), Faeuro Brooklyn (USLII), and the Greek Americans. Now at Bronx Community College, Coach Sawaneh hopes to lead the soccer team to new heights.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank Director of Athletics Dionne Dodson and Associate Athletic Director Michael Loeffler, as well as the upper administration at BCC, for granting me this opportunity,” Sawaneh said. “Soccer has been a huge part of my life, and serves as one of my deepest passions. Having played all throughout college, while also getting into the field of coaching, I’ve learned many valuable lessons along the way that I believe have prepared me for this task. I look forward to implementing my style at BCC to bring a winning culture and mindset.”

Sawaneh earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education, as well as a Minor in Sports Management, from Adelphi University. He earned his Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Queensborough Community College. Sawaneh holds a USSF C License.
