Hassan Bilal

Hassan Bilal is entering his third season as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach with Bronx Community College.

During his first season on staff he helped to lead The Broncos to a 14-17 overall record, improving by 64 percent from the previous season (jumping from 9 to 14 wins). The team went 6-2 in the CUNYAC during the regular season, earning the #2 seed in the 2019-2020 CUNYAC Tournament where they won in the semifinal round and advanced to the championship game for the first time since the 2012-2013 season. They also won its first NJCAA Region XV Men’s Basketball Tournament game in five years, advancing to the regional semifinals before losing.

A Bronx native, Bilal began his coaching career shortly after graduating from St. John’s University, as he began working as an AAU Assistant Coach with the New York Gauchos and New York panthers. He has worked at a variety of levels, including as a varsity Assistant Coach at Yonkers’ Roosevelt High School and Rye Country Day School and as a Head Coach at The Harvey School from 2010-2012.

Coach Bilal has worked heavily in the grassroots/AAU basketball world, working with several highly reputable programs in New York City and Westchester County. He currently works as a basketball trainer, specializing in individual and group training where he teaches basketball skills and fundamentals along with sport specific strength and conditioning training. He is also Director/Lead Coach of the Purple Reign Warriors, which is a competitive grassroots basketball program, working with middle school through high school players. There, he primarily serves the youth of New York City, Westchester County and Southwestern Connecticut.

Bilal was a multi-sport athlete in high school, playing football and basketball. He went on to complete a postgraduate year of study at prestigious Worcester Academy (Worcester, MA), where he played football and ran track. He continued his education at Florida A&M University and later St. John’s University, playing football for both universities. He graduated from St. John’s in 2003 with a BA in History.

He is married to wife Simone and together, they have two sons, ‘Isa and Ali.
