Bronx drops fourth straight game, falling to Raritan Valley Lions Thursday afternoon

The Bronx baseball team dropped a road game on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Lions of Raritan Valley Community College by a score of 16-0 in North Branch, NJ. With the defeat, the Broncos have now dropped four consecutive contests, dipping to 9-11.

Raritan Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, before plating a whopping 11 in the bottom of the second. After adding three runs in the bottom of the third, the Lions registered the necessary outs in the fourth and fifth innings to trigger the mercy rule, winning the game after four and a half frames.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, Bronx did register six hits on the afternoon – all singles. Two of those aforementioned six came off the bat of newcomer Lenox Rondon, with Jason Espinoza, (a single and a walk), Luis Villaman, Hector Jimenez, and Jhouerling Gonzalez also recorded a single apiece.

Juan Santos (5-2) took the loss on the hill for Bronx, tossing two innings and allowing 13 runs (six earned) on 13 hits while walking two and striking out one.

Raritan Valley was led by Anthony DeNora's game-high six RBI, as he registered a triple and a double while drawing a walk and scoring a pair of runs. Nick Sellitti homered, singled, scored four times, and drove in a pair, and Tommy Baase (single, walk, run scored, stolen base) and Mikey Tavarez (single, sacrifice fly) registered two RBI apiece for the hosts. Joey Sanchez (two singles, three runs scored, RBI) and Benjamin Hernandez (two singles, two runs scored, RBI) also played key roles offensively for the Lions.

Kevin Pepe started the game for the hosts, tossing three scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out one. Nico Pachamango and Ben Linzer tossed a scoreless inning apiece to close the victory out.

The Broncos will return to action on Tuesday afternoon, as they'll play their regular season home finale against Suffolk. Start-time is scheduled for 3:30pm. Prior to the game, sophomores Abel Acosta Vasquez, Adrian Pena, Anderson Puello, Giancarlo Leon, Anshel Novelo, Jason Espinoza, Luis Torres, Justin Perez Salcedo, and Luis Villaman will be honored in a special presentation.
