Bronx splits pair of games, dominating Dutchess 20-1, before getting edged by Union College (NJ), 8-5

The Bronx Community College baseball teams split a pair of games in recent days, blowing out the Falcons of Dutchess in Region XV action by a score of 20-1 this past Tuesday, before falling today to the Owls of Union College (New Jersey) by a final of 8-5. With that two game output, the Broncos are now 3-5 on the 2026 campaign. The Falcons are 0-7 on the year, while the Falcons improved to 3-16.

Tuesday, March 31, 2026: Broncos 20, Falcons 1 (Five Innings – Mercy rule)

In a game that took place at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in Cross Road, Staatsburg, NY, Bronx imposed its will on Dutchess, dominating the game from the first pitch. The Broncos dented home plate twice in the second inning, six more times in the second, and once in the third. After the Falcons got on the scoreboard with a single run in the bottom of the third, Bronx scored eight in the fourth and two more in the fifth, before the mercy-rule triggered following five innings of play.

Veteran Luis Torres was fantastic in the victory for the Broncos, as he launched a homerun, clocked a double, and drove in five runs. He also dented home plate three times while drawing a pair of walks. Newcomer Jhouerling Gonzalez singled twice, stole a base, scored a run, and picked up four RBI. Joel Matos, Jason Espinoza, and Hector Jimenez were the other Bronx players with multiple RBI on the day, as they all drove in two. Overall, the Broncos drew 15 walks and registered 11 hits, with three batters also reaching base via HBP's.

On the hill for the Broncos, Juan Santos (2-0) picked up the victory, as he tossed a complete game (five innings), allowing just one run (earned) on six hits while walking two and striking out five.

Dante Mandile had by far the most successful day of any Dutchess player, as he homered, doubled, drove in a run, and scored a run. His brother Joseph Mandile singled twice, and Marc Cretera singled.

Corey Martin took the loss on the hill for the Falcons, as he allowed four runs (all earned) on two hits while hitting a batter, throwing two wild pitches, and striking out two. Christopher Tutino (two innings, five runs, including one earned) and Andrew Relyea (two innings, 11 runs, including 10 earned) combined to pitch the remainder of the game following Martin's departure after an inning logged.

Thursday, April 2, 2026: Owls 8, Broncos 5

Offensively for the Broncos in their loss to Union College, veteran Luis Villaman recorded a two-RBI double, while also stealing a base. Newcomer Lenox Rondon reached base four times, clocking a double, picking up a single, and drawing two walks. He also scored a run, as well. Adrian Pena singled twice, scored a run, picked up a RBI, stole a base, and walked, and Cristian Calderon singled, stole two bases, and walked twice.

Jhouerling Gonzalez took the loss on the mound for Bronx, as he tossed 3.2 innings, allowing two runs (just one earned) on two hits while walking seven, throwing a wild pitch, and striking out four. Abel Acosta Vasquez allowed just two earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched, yielding six hits, walking a batter, hitting one, and striking out three.

Gabe Albarran singled twice, was hit by a pitch, stole a base, scored a run, and drove in a pair. Joseph Valdez picked up a two-RBI single, and Angelo Sabino (single, two runs scored, RBI, walk) and Jason Rosado (double, RBI, walk) also played key roles in Union's victory.

Kevin Herrera hurled a strong 6.2 innings in receiving the victory, as he allowed four runs (just one earned) on eight hits while walking three, hitting two batters, and striking out seven. Rodrigo Rodriguez earned a five-out save, allowing no runs on a walk and two strikeouts.

Albarran's RBI single in the top of the second inning gave Union College (NJ) a 1-0 advantage, and Rosario's RBI double to right center in the third increased the visitors' edge to 2-0. The Broncos got one run back in the bottom of the fourth when Pena notched an RBI single to left, scoring Espinoza, pulling the hosts to within a run, 2-1.

After the squads went scoreless in the fifth inning, Union dented home plate three times in the sixth, highlighted by Valdez's two-RBI single. The Owls added two more in the seventh to boost their commanding lead to six runs, 7-1.

Bronx trailed 7-2 in the bottom of the seventh before Villaman launched a two-RBI double to deep left field to pull the Broncos to within three, at 7-4.

Each team scored a run in the eighth, with Union College's coming courtesy of an Albarran RBI single, and Bronx's coming courtesy of a Braily Severino RBI groundout. The Broncos had the bases loaded with one out after Severino's RBI, but Torres hit into a fielder's choice, with the runner getting forced out at home plate, and Espinoza followed by flying out to right field to end the threat.

In the bottom of the ninth, with Villaman on second base and nobody out, Union College (NJ) closer Rodrigo Rodriguez, who escaped trouble in the inning prior, retired three consecutive batters to clinch the victory.

Up next for the Broncos:

Bronx will return to action on Saturday afternoon, as the Broncos will host Dutchess in a doubleheader at Ohio Field. Start-times of the games are set for 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
