Bronx baseball sets program record for runs against Nassau, defeating Lions, 18-12 in NJCAA Region 15 action

The Bronx Community College baseball team continued to roll on Tuesday afternoon, winning its third consecutive game, and for the sixth time in its last eight contests, defeating the Lions of Nassau by a score of 18-12 in NJCAA Region 15 action. The contest took place at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Garden City, NY. With the victory, the Broncos bumped to a mark of 9-7 on the 2026 campaign, while the Lions dipped to 8-8.

The Broncos offense, which has now plated 84 runs in its last six games, scored 18 runs against Nassau, which marks the most runs Bronx has ever scored against the Lions. For the 2026 campaign, the Broncos are averaging 11.2 runs per game.

In a game that saw a plethora of pendulum swings, the Broncos led 2-1 after an inning, trailed 4-2 after two, and led 7-6 after three frames. Bronx plated five runs in the top of the fourth to boost its advantage to six, 12-6, but the hosts responded with four runs to inch to within two (12-10) after four complete. The Broncos scored four runs in the top of the fifth to take a 16-10 advantage, eventually cruising to an 18-12 triumph.

Jason Espinoza produced five RBI for the Broncos, singling three times and scoring three runs. Luis Villaman doubled, singled twice, drew a walk, and drove in four runs, and hitting machine Lenox Rondon fell just a triple short of hitting for the cycle, as he went 5-for-5, smashing a homerun, registering a double, picking up a single, denting home plate five times, walking, and driving in two. Luis Torres picked up a double and a single while scoring twice and driving in a pair.

Juan Santos (double, two singles, two runs scored, RBI), Cristian Calderon (two singles, two runs scored, stolen base), and Eduardo Flores-Barrientos (two singles and a run scored) all recorded multi-hit games for Bronx.

On the mound for the Broncos, Abel Acosta Vasquez got the start, but he lasted just three innings, allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits while hitting three batters and walking one. Veteran Anshel Novelo (2-2) relieved Vasquez and earned the victory, as he tossed six strong frames, allowing four earned runs on five hits while walking four and striking out seven.

Despite the loss for the Lions, Patrick Sebber singled twice and drove in three runs. Chris Stumpf registered a three-RBI triple while denting home plate twice and drawing a walk, and Daniel Reynolds singled three times, scored three runs, drew two walks, and picked up two RBI. Finally, it was Aidan Quinn hitting a triple, notching three singles, scoring two runs, drawing a walk, getting hit by a pitch, and driving in two.

Nassau starter Alex Darzano (1-2) got rocked, twisting 3.1 frames and allowing 12 runs nine earned) on 14 hits while striking out four.
