Men's soccer stays hot offensively with 5-2 drubbing of CUNY foe Queensborough; Winning streak extends to three

The Bronx Community College Broncos continued their impressive turnaround on Tuesday afternoon, cruising to a 5-2 CUNY victory over the Queensborough Community College Tigers at Ohio Field on a windy afternoon.

The final result marked Bronx's third consecutive triumph and fourth win in its last five contests, as the Broncos have quickly reversed their fortunes after opening the season with an 0-2-1 record. Bronx improved to 4-3-1 on the season with the win, while Queensborough fell to 1-8.

The Broncos wasted little time establishing control. Omar Sillah opened the scoring in the eighth minute, converting a pass from Oumarou Baguian to put Bronx ahead 1-0. Just over four minutes later, Fnu Eselecha Ndemalalue doubled the advantage with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute.

Queensborough responded in the 28th minute when Eric Copo scored off an assist from Santiago Diaz, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Broncos, however, answered before halftime. David Santa found the back of the net in the 32nd minute, with Santiago Vazquez providing the assist, sending Bronx into the break with a 3-1 advantage.

Bronx continued to apply pressure after intermission. Hanif Soule converted a penalty kick in the 54th minute to push the Broncos' lead to 4-1. Later, in the 78th minute, Tawfiq Amin added Bronx's fifth goal of the afternoon, scoring off an assist from Sillah.

The Tigers managed to trim the deficit once more when Roolf Vital converted a penalty kick in the 83rd minute, but Bronx's defense held firm over the closing minutes to secure the three-goal victory.

Sillah finished the afternoon with a goal and an assist, while Baguian and Vazquez each recorded an assist. Santa and Ndemalalue each found the net, while Soule and Amin contributed goals off the bench.

The Broncos controlled the attacking statistics throughout the contest, out-shooting Queensborough 22-13 and holding a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. Bronx also earned five corner kicks compared to three for the Tigers.

Goalkeeper Ramon Caldera made two saves while allowing two goals to help preserve the Broncos' victory.

With momentum firmly on their side, the Broncos will look to extend their winning streak on Thursday afternoon when they welcome the Senators of SUNY Ulster to Ohio Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
