Broncos' men's basketball team continues to search for elusive first victory after losses against Sharks, Falcons

The Broncos' men's basketball team is still searching for its first victory of the 2025-2026 campaign after recent games, as Bronx lost to the Sharks of Suffolk by a score of 80-60 this past Saturday in Selden, NY, before falling to the Falcons of Dutchess at the Alumni Gymnasium last night by a final of 108-74. With that two-game output, the Broncos dipped to a mark of 0-18.

January 17, 2026: Sharks 80, Broncos 60

Despite the loss for Bronx, newcomer Bryan Teixeira connected on six of his 13 attempts from the floor, finishing with 15 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while veteran Alexander Hattel recorded 15 points, four assists, three steals, and two rebounds. Said Martin posted a double-double, as he netted 10 points while snatching 19 boards and swiping two steals, and Aden Lugo added six points and four rebounds.

Bronx trailed by a score of 40-30 at the half, and the Sharks extended their lead gradually in the second half, eventually winning the game by 20 points (80-60).

The Broncos converted on just 34.2 percent of their attempts from the floor (25-73) while misfiring on eight free throw attempts (9-17, 52.9 percent). Bronx pulled down 46 rebounds, dished 14 assists, swiped 12 steals, blocked three shots, and turned the ball over 14 times.

January 20, 2026: Falcons 108, Broncos 74

In the Broncos' loss to the Falcons, Teixeira scored a game-high 17 points to go along with four assists. Martin posted a double-double, as he netted 16 points while snatching a game-high 12 rebounds, and Hattel finalized his evening with nine points, five rebounds, and three steals. Finally, it was Shamari Johnson contributing nine points while tying for the game-high of six assists, snatching five rebounds, and swiping two steals.

Dutchess was paced by Elijah Cherry, as he scored a game-high 15 points. Supreme Niles added 10 points, four rebounds, and a team-high three steals, and Darrel Taylor registered nine points and five rebounds. Finally, it was Nouhoun Diarra and Jadyn Wilson scoring eight points apiece for the visitors, with Diarra adding four rebounds and a pair of steals, and Wilson registering five rebounds and two blocked shots.

In what was a very competitive first half of action, neither squad took more than a five-point lead for the opening 18:49. The Falcons finally eclipsed a five-point advantage with 1:11 remaining in the half when Diarra converted on the second of two free throws to put the visitors ahead 38-32. Dutchess would go up by as many as 10 (42-32) before taking a 45-38 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Bronx kept things close in the early stages of the second half, as Martin's converted layup with 17:21 remaining brought the hosts to within eight (53-45). However, it was all Dutchess after that, as the Falcons outscored the Broncos 55-29 down the stretch to account for the 34-point margin of victory (108-74).

The Falcons were the more efficient team shooting the basketball, as they earned a conversion rate of 43.2 percent (38-88), while the Broncos connected on 27 of 66 shot attempts (40.9 percent). Dutchess held a dominant 59-40 edge on the glass, but the Broncos held a 17-13 advantage in assists. The visitors registered 17 steals compared to nine for Bronx, and the Falcons won the turnover battle, committing just 13 on the evening, while the Broncos finished with 23.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday evening, as the team will travel to Garden City, NY to battle the Lions of Nassau Community College. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 7:00pm.
