Another stellar offensive performance propels Broncos to 18-6 CUNY victory over Tigers; Bronx's win streak now eight games

The Broncos' baseball team kept its winning streak alive on Friday afternoon, blowing out the Tigers of Queensborough in a CUNY game by a score of 18-6 in seven innings. The clash took place at Padavan Preller-Field in Bellerose, NY. With the victory, Bronx is now two games over .500 on the year (17-15, 7-3 CUNY C.C.C.), while the Tigers dipped to 5-17 (2-8 CUNY C.C.C.).

Bronx, which has now scored 11 runs or more in five consecutive games, was paced by the stellar plate work of Giancarlo Leon, as the youngster fell just a homerun short of the cycle, registering a triple, double, single, picked up three RBI's, scoring two runs, and stealing a base. Luis Torres recorded a two-bagger while also registering a single, driving in three, stealing two bases, and scoring a run, and Robert Genao finished with a game-high five stolen bases to go along with three runs scored, two singles, two RBI's, and  walk.

Also contributing offensively for the Broncos was William Whitcomb, as he scored a pair of runs, picked up two RBI's, walked twice, and stole a base, and Dario Vazquez doubled, singled, stole three bases, and scored a run.

Justin Rosario Cruz earned the start and struggled for Bronx, as he lasted just four innings, allowing five runs (all earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out nine. After Fernando Santiago entered the game and lasted just one batter, ace Frailin Jimenez (7-3) took over and picked up the victory, tossing two stellar scoreless frames, yielding just two hits and walking one while striking out five.

The Broncos scored six runs in the top of the first to race out to a commanding 6-0 advantage. Later, Bronx held a 9-2 lead after two innings before putting up another six-spot in the top of the third to snatch a 15-2 advantage. The Broncos' huge lead was never threatened in this one, as the closest the Tigers got was within 10 (15-5) before Bronx went on to win the contest 18-6 after the mercy rule triggered after the seventh.

Bronx will look to extend its winning streak to nine games on Monday afternoon, as the Broncos will welcome the Tigers to Ohio Field for another CUNY contest. First pitch time is scheduled for 3:30pm.
