Game Recap: Baseball |

Broncos need just 11 innings to register 33 runs, grab two victories in doubleheader destruction of Panthers

The Broncos' baseball team picked up a pair of commanding victories on Thursday afternoon, turning back CUNY rival BMCC by scores of 18-0 and 15-1. Despite Bronx serving as the road team for the doubleheader, the games were played at Ohio Field. With the victories, the Broncos improved to a mark of 9-13 on the 2025 campaign (2-2 CUNY C.C.C.), while the Panthers dipped to a mark of 1-11 (1-3 CUNY C.C.C.).

Game 1 of DH – Bronx Broncos 18, BMCC Panthers 0 (6 Innings)

In the opener of the doubleheader, sophomore William Whitcomb led the offensive barrage for his squad, slashing four hits, including a double and three singles, all while scoring three runs and picking up one RBI. Fernando Santiago doubled twice, singled, dented home plate twice, and drove in two, and Luis Villaman tripled, walked, scored once, and registered two RBI. Other Broncos registering at least two RBI on the day were Robert Genao, Juan Rodriguez, and Luis Torres.

Ace Frailin Jimenez (4-3) was masterful for the Broncos on the hill, as he earned the victory, hurling a complete game shutout, yielding just two hits, walking four batters, and hitting two while striking out 11.

Offensively for BMCC, the Panthers managed just two hits and four walks in the contest. Wiljer Casana and Michael Marra registered the hits for BMCC, both singles.

Brennan Rivas got the start for the Panthers and took the loss, hurling 5.1 frames and allowing 10 runs (six earned) on nine hits while walking four, hitting a batter, and striking out five. Yoskar Vargas didn't fare much better for BMCC, as he tossed 0.2 innings and allowed eight runs (one earned) on three hits while walking five, hitting a batter, and striking out one.

Bronx spent the first five innings gradually building its advantage, plating a run in each of the first, second, and fourth innings, while also denting home plate three times in the fifth. The Broncos offense erupted for a whopping 12 runs in the sixth, and after BMCC was held scoreless in the bottom of the sixth inning, the 10-run mercy rule kicked in, giving Bronx the win.

Game 2 of DH – Bronx Broncos 15, BMCC Panthers 1 (5 Innings)

Just as they did in the opener of the CUNY doubleheader, the Broncos registered 12 hits in game two, including two from Genao, as he tripled, singled, walked, scored two runs, and drove in two. Torres tripled, singled, dented home plate twice and picked up two RBI, and Whitcomb doubled, singled, scored two runs, and drove in two. Other Broncos registering at least two hits for the game were Santiago (two singles, a walk, three runs scored, and two RBI) and Adrian Pena (two singles, a run scored, and two runs driven in).

Anshel Novelo (2-2) was spectacular from the Broncos in game two, earning the win by tossing a complete game (five innings), allowing just one run (unearned) on five hits while walking two, hitting a batter, and striking out 10.

Unlike game one where the Broncos produced most of their runs in the latter portion of the contest, Bronx did a ton of damage early in game two, plating 11 runs in the top of the second inning to snatch an 11-0 edge. The Broncos added four more in the fifth, and BMCC plated just one in the bottom. With that, the 10-run mercy rule triggered, giving the Broncos another win.

Up next for the Broncos

Bronx will return to action on Friday afternoon, as the Broncos will take on BMCC in another CUNY contest. Start-time at Ohio Field is scheduled for 3:00pm.
