Balanced Broncos earn 15-0 victory over NJCAA Region XV foe Dutchess on Friday afternoon

The Broncos' baseball team made it two victories in a row on Friday afternoon, trouncing the Falcons of Dutchess in an NJCAA Region XV game by a score of 15-0 in seven innings. The game was played at Ohio Field in the Bronx. With the victory, the Broncos improved to a record of 5-11 on the 2025 campaign, while the Falcons are still searching for their first victory, dipping to a mark of 0-6.

For Bronx, Luis Torres fell just a homerun short of the cycle, registering a triple, double, and a single. He scored a pair of runs on the afternoon, while also driving in three and stealing two bases. Jason Espinoza doubled twice, walked twice, dented home plate three times, and drove in a run, and Luis Villaman picked up three RBI, two via a single, and one courtesy of a sacrifice fly. Justin Perez recorded a two-run inside-the-park homer in his lone at-bat of the day.

Starter Justin Perez pitched very well in earning the victory for Bronx, as he tossed five scoreless innings, yielding just four hits and issuing four walks while striking out seven. Gerardo Escalante was able to register two outs in the sixth before Fernando Santiago pitched the rest of the way for the hosts, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out four and allowing just one hit.

The Falcons' struggling offense recorded just six hits on the day, including two from Aidan Damon who doubled, singled, and stole a base. Dante Mandile and Aidan Hartwell hit two singles apiece, with Mandile also drawing a walk. Dutchess did have opportunities to score, but left 11 men on base over the course of the game.

Christopher Tutino took the loss for the visitors, as he lasted three innings and allowed seven runs (five earned) on four hits while walking four batters, hitting four, throwing three wild pitches, balking twice, and striking out one.

The Broncos plated a run in the first inning via a RBI double by Espinoza, and dented home plate twice more in the bottom of the second courtesy of a two-RBI single by Robert Genao. Bronx added four more runs in the bottom of the third, courtesy of William Whitcomb's RBI single, Torres' RBI double, Villaman's sacrifice fly, and an error by Dutchess catcher Joe Davenport, which allowed Justin Rosario Cruz to score.

Up 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Bronx's offense continued to hum, as the hosts would light up the scoreboard for four more runs in an inning that was highlighted and capped by a two-RBI single by Villaman. A RBI triple by Torres in the fifth, a RBI groundout by Luis Perdomo in the sixth, and a two-run inside-the-park homerun by Justin Perez in the sixth, wrapped-up the Broncos' scoring for the day.

The Falcons, needing to score at least six times in the top of the seventh to avoid losing the game due to the mercy rule, were unable to produce any, giving the Broncos another lopsided victory.

Bronx and Dutchess will return to action tomorrow afternoon, as the NJCAA Region XV members will lock up in a doubleheader at FDR High School in Staatsburg, NY. Start-times for those contests are scheduled for 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
