Broncos' offense gets back on track with 23-1 domination of Falcons at Ohio Field

The Broncos' baseball team registered a dominating victory on Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Falcons of Dutchess Community College by a score of 23-1 (seven innings). The game took place at Ohio Field in the Bronx. With the triumph, Bronx improved to a mark of 4-11 on the 2025 campaign, while the Falcons dipped to a record of 0-5.

Offensively for Bronx, the hosts registered 13 hits, walked nine times, and were hit by nine pitches in the rout. Leading the way at the plate was Jose Perez, as he recorded four singles on the afternoon while scoring three runs, driving in three, getting hit by a pitch, and stealing a base. Jason Espinoza doubled, singled twice, scored five runs, picked up three RBI, and drew two walks, and Luis Villaman recorded a bases-loaded triple, driving in three runs while also stealing a base and getting hit by a pitch. Gabriel Perdomo made the most of his pinch-hit at-bat, launching a solo homerun.

On the hill for the Broncos, ace Frailin Jimenez pitched a complete game, tossing seven innings and allowing just one run (earned) on two hits while issuing three walks, hitting a batter, and striking out 11. The standout faced just four batters passed the minimum, and lowered his team-leading ERA to 2.42.

Aiden Hartwell drove in the only run for the Falcons, recorded a double. Joe Davenport scored the lone run for the visitors, as he finished one-for-three on the afternoon with a single.

In what was a tough performance for the Falcons' pitching staff, starter Corey Martin started and registered just one out, as he took the loss, allowing three earned runs on three walks and two hit batsmen.

Bronx wasted no time jumping ahead in this NJCAA Region XV clash, plating three runs in the bottom of the first courtesy of RBI walks by Robert Genao and Giancarlo Leon, as well as an infield RBI single by Jose Perez. The Broncos led 3-0 after an inning of play.

In the bottom of the second, the Broncos scored eight more runs to take a commanding 11-0 advantage. Run-producing hits in the frame came off the bats of Jason Espinoza (two-RBI double), Leon (RBI single), Jose Perez (RBI single), and Adrian Pena (two-RBI single).

The home school tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third inning thanks to Villaman's bases-clearing triple. That ballooned the Broncos' edge to 14-0. Bronx added six more runs over the ensuing two innings, including Perdomo's solo homer, to snatch a 20-0 advantage.

Dutchess broke up Jimenez's shutout bid in the top of the sixth when Hartwell registered a run-producing double to get the Falcons on the board and make it a 20-1 game. Bronx answered in the bottom half of the frame with three more runs, with the highlight of the inning coming courtesy of Espinoza, as he registered a RBI double. The Broncos led 23-1 after six, and set down the Falcons in order in the seventh to trigger the 10-run mercy rule.

The Broncos and Falcons will play game two of this four-game set on Friday afternoon, as the teams will lock up again at Ohio Field. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 3:00pm.
