Bronx edged by Suffolk 3-2 in NJCAA Region XV action; Rodriguez earns two hits to raise average to .364

The Bronx Broncos' baseball team dropped an NJCAA Region XV game on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Sharks of Suffolk by a score of 3-2. The contest took place in Selden, NY. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to a mark of 3-8 on the 2025 campaign, while Suffolk improved to a mark of 11-7.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, veteran Juan Rodriguez continued his recent hot streak, as he registered a pair of singles in three at-bats while driving in a run. Luis Villaman doubled and scored a run, and Jason Espinoza picked up the other Bronx hit on the day with a single. Giancarlo Leon registered a RBI in Bronx's defeat.

The Sharks registered seven hits on the afternoon, all singles. Ryan Sitler accounted for two hits on the day while also driving in a run. Dominick Viggiano reached base three times, singling and walking twice, and Kevin Jeran singled and scored a run.

Bronx ace Frailin Jimenez put together a mixed bag in terms of results, as he tossed five innings in receiving the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while walking four, throwing one wild pitch, and striking out seven. Reliever Yoscar Rondon put together a strong effort, twirling two scoreless frames, allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out one.

Suffolk's Wyatt Wiskoff was brilliant in picking up the victory for the hosts, as he pitched seven strong innings, allowing just two earns (one earned) on four hits while issuing two walks and striking out seven. Patrick Donahue picked up the save in the eighth, pitching a perfect frame while registering a strikeout.

After both teams were held scoreless through three innings, the Sharks broke through for a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Broncos answered back by denting home plate once in the top of the fifth, but Suffolk got that run back in the bottom of the frame. The Sharks held a 3-1 edge after five innings.

Bronx was able to add a run in the top of the sixth, but that would be the final run scored of the day, as the game was called following the conclusion of the top of the eighth due to darkness/fog.

The Broncos and Sharks will resume their four-game set on Friday afternoon, as the teams will lock-up once again in Selden, NY, with first-pitch time scheduled for 4:00pm.
