Bronx unable to solve Westchester as Vikings register commanding victory in Valhalla, NY

The Bronx Broncos baseball team lost an NJCAA single game on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Vikings of Westchester Community College by a score of 15-5 in seven innings. The game took place at Vikings Stadium in Valhalla, NY. With the loss, Bronx dipped to a record of 1-5 on the 2025 campaign, while Westchester improved to 8-4.

Trailing 7-0 after four innings of play, the Broncos refused to go down quietly, plating five runs in the top of the fifth to close to within two runs, 7-5. The Vikings responded by plating a run in the bottom of the sixth, while also adding five more in the bottom of the seventh to trigger the 10-run mercy rule after seven turns at-bat apiece.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, newcomer Robert Genao reached base three times, registering a double, single, and getting hit by a pitch. He also scored a run on the afternoon. William Whitcomb singled twice and drove in a run, and Adrian Pena accounted for a RBI single. Giancarlo Leon and Luis Torres reach singled, walked, and scored a run, and Yael Bernard Familia singled and walked.

Offensively for Westchester, the Vikings were led by Michael Tiseo, as he doubled, singled twice, hit a sacrifice fly, scored three runs, and drove in two. Freddy Heymach doubled, singled twice, scored three runs, stole three bases, and picked up a RBI, and Nick Vendola singled twice, swiped a pair of bags, and dented home plate once. Overall, the Vikings recorded 14 hits in the victory, with nine different players recording at least one base hit.

It was a difficult day for Broncos pitchers, with starter Justin Martinez taking the loss on the hill, as he twirled two innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits while whiffing a pair of batters. Four other Bronx hurlers, including Yoscar Rondon, Anshel Novelo, Abel Acosta Vasquez, and Kevin Baez combined to pitch 4.2 innings, allowing 13 runs (three earned) on 10 hits while walking four and striking out six.

Robert Keller started for the Vikings and fell one out short of the requirement for earning a victory, as he twirled 4.2 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits while walking four, hitting a batter, and striking out five. Christian Peralta was brilliant in picking up the win in relief, as he recorded the final seven outs, setting down every batter he faced, striking out two.

The Broncos will now begin a four-game homestand, as they'll return home to Ohio Field this Friday, welcoming Roxbury Community College to the Bronx for a single game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
